Happy New Year to All!!.
I'll be moving to the east coast (Maryland) this summer, and want to have my 6th gear ratio changed to 0.56:1 like the ZO. My car is a 99 and the 6th gear is just too tall for my driving stile, and is a bit notchy. Can anyone point me to a shop who can do the work?
Thanks All
Yep, I agree, I don't understand why they made the stretch from 5th to 6th unless they were only looking to improve the cafe numbers, otherwise it useless and easy to crunch even with a short throw.
I don't know how much of a drive it is for you but I highly recommend RKT Performance in Frederick, Maryland. I've had him rebuild two trans as well as my diff.
Thanks guys, I had pulled up their web, but did not know anything about them. Now that you have chimed in, They will be the ones I contact. I will be living down in Solomons area which is south of Annapolis, so driving up to Frederick will not be an issue to get something this important done by someone knowledgeable. I am going to have the car transported, and might see if they could receive it instead of driving it up...We'll see what they say.
Thank you very much!!
Hey your car so by all means do what you want but I gotta ask why? .5 to .56? What's the difference? A mph or 2? Again, I'm by no means pooping on your idea I'm just trying to understand why. It just seems like a lot of time and money for such a little difference. I just had an RPM built T56 with MN6 gearing installed in my Z06.
There are a lot of good shops in this area. I have never used Rick personally but have spoken with him. For something like this I would think he is without a doubt the go to guy/shop.
It's not a long drive from Solomons to Frederick. 2/4N to 495 then right up 270. You could Uber back and up.
My folks live in Solomons. It's a very nice area with great restaurants and a good car scene. Maryland International Raceway is one of the faster tracks in the country and is about 25-30 minutes from Solomons.
Good luck with the trans. I'm sure Rick will get you straight. Happy New Year to you as well.
I raced for many years in SCCA and never had a trans that had such a wide separation in gears, that ratio of .50-.56 is not such a big leap, and yes I will probably shorten it up even more. The entire box is going to get a going over so my options are large. Solomons is my family home, and have lived there twice and now retired so it will be my permanent home. The old track that I remember is no longer in use, but the newer (to me) VIR is close and I plan on being there as much as possible (I am 80) We'll see as the year progresses. I am also contemplating on center-lock wheels out of the UK. and swapping out the OEM injection for true ITBs this month.
Don't get old, you will be looking for things to do.
Thanks
