Default Need help with tires

Was wondering if anyone has had any luck with running a tire size of 275/40/19 tires in the rear? Will there be any rubbing or any implications with any of the cars systems. For clarification I have the stock tire sizes and rims on the car currently. Thanks

A 275/40/18 is 26.7" tall. A 275/40/19 is 27.7" tall. Anything over 27.2" is going to be flirting with possible interference/rubbing issues.
The car's AH/TC systems aren't sensitive and won't really care, as long as the front tires aren't taller than the rears.

19" wheels are fine, lots of people run that diameter wheel. I have 19x11 rears on my car, now.
Just need to buy tires with the correct sizing.
Are you contemplating a switch to 19" wheels?

Later down the line I plan on switching to some replica c6 grand sport wheels which are 19s in the back and 18 in the front. My problem is the back wheels are 15 years old and the fronts are 6 years old. Not sure why the previous owner never thought to replace them but now I gotta change them and I don’t have the money for both the rims and tires. Right now I’m just focused on making sure my wheels won’t randomly explode as I’m driving down the road, knock on wood

You do mean your tires are old, not the wheels, correct? You shouldn't need new wheels.

yes I was referring to the actual tires, I know it’s shocking that they are that old.

When I purchased 2001 convertible, last April, its Goodyear Eagle run-craps were 14yrs old. Lots of cars out there, with really old tires.

yea, the tread on them is still pretty good and the material of the tire still seems to be in good shape, no dry rot or any cracking. I guess the previous owner just let the car sit in a garage most of the time and neglected it. Still bothers me having old tires on the car though.

My old tires looked like new but as soon as my new BC Forged 18" and 19" wheels and Hankook tires arrived, the Goodyears were discarded and old wheels went in storage.

yea I’ll probably keep the old tires as well, so end of story the 275/40/19 tires won’t work on the rear stock c5 wheels?

Honestly, Apex Wheels has the best fitment guide I've seen for the C5, it explains what fitment works best for the street and for track and keeping the AH system happy:

https://apexwheels.com/fitment-guide...-fitment-guide

My C5 has 18/19 set up with 305/30 on the rear IIRC and honestly I really hate how thin the sidewalls are on my car for street driving it rides rough on anything but smooth roads so I'm seriously contemplating going to a 18" square set up.

No problem, and trash (well dispose of them properly I mean) those old tires. Old tires if they don't dry rot then they end up turning into solid shiny bricks, no good unless you plan to use them for drifting and even then I would expect them to pop. I used to work in parts at a Ferrari dealer and some previous manager ordered thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of weird size Pirelli tires so he could win a vacation to Italy. 14 yrs later they were still in climate controlled storage tire racks and were shiny and petrified.

275 40 19 will not work.
285 35 19 should work fine
