we had a '15 v6 challenger for 5 years, 2016-2021. It was in a rear end accident before we bought it, it thought one of the front turn signals was out but it wasn't (just typical Italian car electrical issues). Dealer said it was normal so we lived with the "fast flash" for 5 years Other than that it was a good car for us, quiet, very comfortable, and the gas milage was very good for it's size as well, mid 30s on highway. Great road tripping car if you have the option as a rental, or if you have a long highway commute IMO they are worth looking at.
Oh wow. This is the automotive equivalent of a rebound relationship.
Very well put, lol! Indeed it is. I took the keys to it and gave it a REAL drive today. I will always miss my C5, but this Challenger R/T is a blast to drive. The torque pinned me back in my seat. And it is easy to drive. The C5 took some work to drive well, with the stage 3 clutch and big cam. The Challenger is plug-n-play. I like the A8 tranny with paddle shifters for the "manual mode." When I used the brakes, I nearly went through the windshield. Brakes are much stronger and responsive than the C5 Brembos; that surprised me.
I was SUPER depressed when the C5 was totaled. Rock bottom. I never liked Dodges because I thought they were ugly, heavy, and ride too high. Much to my pleasant surprise, we discovered that it already was moderately lowered, and it has a catback system already in it. And the dealership threw in a 4 year bumper-to bumper warranty for free. The salesman told me it was 100% stock, but I'm glad he was wrong.
Talk about an automotive rebound...so well put! I am starting to pull out of my tailspin; I was plunging fast. State Farm is allowing me to pull out the Zex kit and bottle, but I cannot do that myself. So I am not sure how I am going to extract the components, and I'll likely have to pay out for labor. But overall, I am ascending again. I'm gonna always miss the C5 and I'm gonna miss chilling with you guys.
Keep an eye out on your local Copart yard. State Farm will most likely send the car there for auction. It would be interesting to see what it sells for.

I know if I drive one of these newer V8 Dodge products that I would like it. That's why I stay away. Yes, by modern standards C5 brakes aren't much to write home about. When I pick up my C5 in 13 days, lightness and brakes are the first things I will be adding along with more modern tires.
I had the option of buying back the C5, but every repair will be out of pocket. State Farm designated it as totaled, and none of the shops would touch the C5 because their policy is that they do not work on totaled cars through insurance.
Well this thread just took me all over the place reading from top to bottom.
That C5 can for sure be fixed by the sound of it. Too bad she'll be gone to the parts bin now for someone else to make money off of.
I'm into Dodges now that my wife has the Durango R/T as a great daily with some bark. But the only reason I like the heavy Challengers is because any time a Hellcat lines up at 2am in Mexico they are easy money.
$24,000 could have gone in a LOT of different performance directions.

Sorry for the drawn out-story. This is a difficult process. Lots of factors involved. But when the bodyshops told me they won't touch the C5 once rendered "totaled," all repairs will have to come out-of-pocket. I don't have any money to spare. The good news is that State Farm will let me retrieve my Zex 200 wetshot system with the bottle. I only sprayed the C5 only twice in 2 years, so I put it up for sale in the proper sub-forum.
I had a similar issue with State Farm. The damage wound up not exceeding their valuation, but when they stated their valuation I went out and pulled a bunch of comparable cars off of various websites to show that their valuation was under market, and they eventually conceded the point.
The other issue I had with State Farm is they wanted me to send the car to one of their affiliated body shops. I argued that their preferred shops weren't going to want to work on an older Corvette, but they were not persuaded. After the car sat for weeks their shop came back and said they didn't want to work on it. I wound up taking a below salvage settlement and got it fixed where I wanted to.

It's a total bummer. I was just told that all my mods, repairs and upgrades will not provide any more pay out. They did say they would look into it, so I scanned and faxed all the invoices to SF. It took me one full day to tear through my file cabinet to retrieve whatever I could find. I am shitty about receipts, so I had to try and memorize the very many shops to request past transaction history. I looked over all what I've spend on repairs, replacement and mods. The total was staggering. Over time, I didn't realize I spent that much!
The submission of these receipts failed to get me any more $. They said the work done to it was out of their "time window." SF contracted with a company called "CCC" who provided the appraisal value for the pay out.
