Default PPF peeling with paint

Hello, has anyone had any experience with PPF replacement on the C5 Corvette? I have a C5 I’m looking at buying, but it has peeling front end PPF. Some PPF places I contacted said the paint might come off with it, others said it won’t. Has anyone had experience with this issue? Thanks in advance.

Never had the PPF peel on the C5s I owned, but I did have to take the PPF off the front fascia of the 2003 that I had for a repaint. The factory paint did not peel when the PPF was removed - and just an FYI, the car was about 6 years old at the time. Won't guarantee that it couldn't happen to your car after a lot longer period of time.

It can be removed with heat gun and solvents.

You want to heat enough to release but not too much to hurt the paint or body.

Once started they use a solvent or release agent and it pulls off. Is takes time and some work.

if the paint pulls up you have a paint issue to start.

Just pulled off PPF on my truck. It was hit in the front so I had it all removed. It was 8 years old.

Best to contact a graphics shop that wraps cars as this is their specialty.

My c5 came with some old ppf. It has some dings and chips in it, but I am not brave enough to touch it. Plus I dont have the cash to replace it if I took it off anyway. I am the second owner and I have a feeling its from whenever ppf 1st came out. If you buy it and remove it please post your results.

I took off all the 20 or so yr old sectional PPF (front bumper, rear of fenders and rockers) on my AE last year. Trying several methods (steam, infrared, rubber wheel, forced air heater and heat gun) the heat gun worked best, small section by small section with plastic razor blades. I'd get lucky and some bigger pieces would come off but it was a PITFA! Cleaning the residue was easy using "Rapid-Remover" (like a charm). Here's a few photos I had poster last year, good luck.

Heat gun and solvent non flammable. Just took it off my truck and it helps to have two people one heating and one pulling. the solvent will wipe away any left over glue. It is not difficult and a skill that is learned.

The ONLY reason owners install that cr*p is because they follow too close!

I have ppf (xpel) on both my '67 and my '00, covering the entire cars, never had an issue. I'd suggest even if you're removing it to have it done by a shop, but there really is no reason the paint should come off with current gen ppf, that really only happened with old school films in the 90s, and even then when people didn't remove it properly.

Well isn’t that special.

Sorry but so very often stones come from on coming traffic or even someone passing you.

I lost two windshields by on coming traffic. I only tailgate if I have the snow plow on.

The roads in the mid west have so much debris on them as they are falling apart.

Yes tailgating it happens but it is far from the only way and low cars are often the greatest victims.
