Z06 here, also running 255 front and 295 rear tires. very happy with the set up and I do 4-5 track days a year. Don't restrict yourself to OEM sizes or brand, so many options out there that will work great at a reasonable price.
I have the same set up on 18" and 19" and they have been awesome. Going to taller tires also increased my options. Food for thought
Conti DWS 06 are my favorite UHP A/S ever. I have run them on a Lexus LS400, BMW 540i and my current BMW 4 series gran coupe. The dry and wet traction are phenomenal and holds up to hooning in the BMWs I had. Decent tire life on them too. Since my C5 is running 18/19s they don't make them in any size I can use. If you can get them for your Z06 wheels, I recommend.
I run Toyo Sport A/S+ on my C5 and I am happy with them, they're not going to be winning any autocrosses but for driving in torrential rain and dry traction they are pretty great for street driving. They're wearing well too. Unfortunately it looks like the 18" sizes don't come any wider than 275 which is no bueno for a C5 rear size imo.
Yes,they are overpriced but are oe sized..If i drove it everyday it would have been a differant story.
Believe me I was torn over this but really can't justify how expensive the OEM tires are now, plus I will never drive the car hard enough to feel the benefits of those tires. I can get the Contintental DWS06 for much less. But I think I will go with the same size rears and for the fronts go with the slightly narrower 255 tires (which is only 3/8th of an inch narrower), because that size is around half the price of the rears and visually I won't be able to tell the width difference from the OEM's.
I went with Nitto 555G2 front 275/40/17 and Nitto 555R2 rear 305/35/18. I like this combo because the sidewall height front to back is the same as the stock GY F1s. Front and rear do bulge a bit, but I don’t mind as it could potentially help with curb rash. For me personally I don’t care for the smaller sizes like 255s on the front and 285s on the back. They look too small (stretched) thats just me though.
Thanks again for the info here. Just got me some new tires 295 rear and 255 front and WOW i didnt realize how hard my tires were and what a difference it makes. They are Bridgestone’s, forget the model name but a great tire for my needs.
