Default C5 for $4000

Hello guys am new here. I just bought a 2002 Corvette with 106,000 miles for $4000.

To make a long story short, someone owed the owner (person who sold me the car) money so he took the Corvette, it took about 5 years to get the title straightened out, don't know why so long maybe he didn't really care. Meanwhile the car was underneath a tree with the Phoenix sun hitting the rear of the car and rodents chewing on the cables.

The car is in excellent condition for the price.

Originally the starter wasn't cranking, replaced the ignition switch thinking that was the problem, nope. Looked around rodents chewed on yellow cable that provides power to TDR. Fixed, now it cranks.

Now we have no fuel pressure, don't hear pump. Fuse good , relay good, no power at grey cable on fuel pump. Currently looking into this but I believe the rodents got to this cable somewhere.

First time working on a Corvette, but it feels like am working on a big Go-Kart. Never driven a Corvette either, but that will change soon.

Good luck and hope the rodent damage is not really wide spread.

I can tell you'll be fine handling whatever issues the car has. Good. And if you get stuck, the forum here especially but also C5 Modified and several others on facebook are good sources for help. These cars have a huge community, so there is almost nothing which has not come up before and has 5 different threads on how to address it.

Have fun and welcome!

A Youtuber bought a C5 with rodent damage and he found a NOS wiring harness on eBay that cured most of his issues. It might be worth a search to find a new or good used wiring harness to replace the ones that are damaged. Something to consider is there might be some wires partially chewed that could fail down the road leaving you stranded.

Congrats on the awesome find! At that purchase price, you have a lot of headroom to get her back into shape. Enjoy the process, and you're gonna love the ride!

Little update. Tried applying power directly to fuel pump, no response. Took this monster out.

Yeah. I have had some high miles C5s and never have I seen a pail anything other than bright white or pretty bright white with a sock of a dinghy whitish yellow and all of the metal pieces of course being still pristine.

What happened to the car again?

Since your here with the pump out, You might want to replace the hose coupling between the 2 tanks And clean both of them !

Good luck with your prize ! Any fresh purchase Corvette and there going to be some potholes along the way, mine took about a year to find an answer to it's problems, but now it is ready to go anywhere with confidence !

When I got my c5 almost three years ago, it needed a lot of work. Learned to do as much as I could myself with a lot of help from this forum. Now it is in very good shape and I'd drive it anywhere. I now enjoy working on it as much as I do driving it. I've learned more about Corvettes and cars in general in the last few years than I ever imagined I would. I love this car because it has taught me so much. With each new project or repair, I love it more. Enjoy your ride!

Wow! That looks like someone poured a bunch of garbage(sugar maybe?) in the fuel tanks, I would sure pull the other side out too, and the tanks to get them flushed out or replaced.
