Hi all, have some technical questions on Corvette drivetrain. Several years ago I bought the front and the rear suspension and differential from a C5 I believe it was a 2002 or 2004 with the intent of building a kit car. The kit car had a list of parts needed and I began sourcing them. They suggested using a Porsche transaxle with this kit if you've ever taken a close look at one of those you can see right off it's not going to tolerate the power of an LS if it's hopped up. Fast forward 10 years I still have this stuff sitting in storage. I was going to sell all of this but thought I might use it in another project at some point so I kept it. At some point in between there I acquired a 6-speed transmission to go with this. I was looking to source the missing pieces to assemble the entire drivetrain. Essentially I need a torque tube and a bell housing and possibly a mount that goes on the transmission. In doing some research I figured out I purchased a 2005 transmission further research indicates the C6 torque tube is shorter. The bell housing is also different and for all I know possibly other parts. I'm not concerned about the initial length of the torque tube since I figure I'm going to have to shorten it anyway. Does anyone have any innate knowledge of what I'm trying to accomplish here that might be willing to lend their expertise and save me a lot of time and trouble. Sorry for the long-winded question thanks for any help.
For a custom combo and fabrication you are looking at, there is not much of anything that will save you time and trouble.
Google search and deep research and trial and error will be what you are looking at.
I spent a good portion of last night and yesterday evening trying to sort this out with information from the internet I now have more questions and answers. Tried going the interchange parts route with little success. Tried looking up GM part numbers between 2004 and 2005. Seems the 2005 and maybe the first half of the 2006 model years were a little bit odd. Bell housings are different along with the torque tube in the front not sure about the rear. Couldn't Even get an informed answer if there was a difference between the 2004 and 2005 transmissions. If I knew for sure that the C5 torque tube would hook to the transmission I have I would just buy a C5 torque tube and bell housing. Call a couple of salvage yards as well they're not very helpful either.
You may want to give the guys at RPM a call and explain your situation. They offer both C5 and C6 Heavy Duty Torque Tube Input Shafts as well as Torque Tube Bearing rebuild kits and may be able to help you out in terms of compatibility and intermixing the C5 and C6 drivetrain components.
