Default Clearing new badges

My friend has a 99. He has replaced the badges a couple times because of delamination, or something making them look like crap. He picked up a new set and asked me to clear them. Is this something I should do? As you know it is a soft plastic/rubber material.

if good to clear, should I sand first?

I am not sure where he got the old and the new badges. But I guess they were cheap repops.

Let me know your thoughts

thanks
Chris

Well I would think he got replacement badges as I bought a set Of Original OEM badges and I'm telling you only an idiot like myself would pay what I did. And the thing is right from GM they only are simply painted silver, nothing special. I have some parts put aside for future use, and if I were in need to replace mine, I would most important spray them with a coat of clear. Also if you have your car detailed, you have to instruct the shop to use some masking tape on the badgers as a buffing wheel with definitely remove the silver paint. it's not a big deal and they most likely appreciate, this is just a picture of the badges on the front of a C5 2003.

the advice.

I sprayed mine without sanding, I think there’s enough porosity in the plastic. Just do a good job cleaning it to remove any oils. If you want to scuff it, try a gray scuff pad instead of sand paper.
