Just noticed on my 2004 convertible that when I turn lights off passenger light goes completely down driver side goes completely down and after a couple seconds pops back up half way. Any body else had this issue and know a remedy
This is just a shot in the dark. See if you can turn the **** on the back of the motor to the right. That should close it and possibly reset it. It will take a lot of turning before it starts to close.
Trickskier I tried your suggestion and was able to close it by turning counter clockwise, but when I turn the lights back on it goes back to shutting and 2 seconds latter opens halfway again. I tmried it 4 times with same result
Thanks for the suggestion Trickskier. Tried your suggestion and was able to close it but every time I turn the lights on it goes down and comes halfway up again
Did you check the bump stops on the back of the light bucket to see if one fell off or is damaged? You can just remove them and flip them around to the flat side if one side is damaged.

There's also a third bump stop inside. This one stops it on the way down. If it is missing or damaged it could also cause issues. Remove the bezel and you can see it down in there. It looks just like the ones on the back. A metal arm strikes it on the way down to tell the motor it is in the correct closed position. If it is excessively worn or missing. The motor won't get the right message that it is in closed position so it thinks it should stay open. If the bumper is there, try pulling it off, flip it an press it back on. The hopefully unworn side will cause it to work. These things are plastic and wear out. You can get new ones for about $10 a pair. There's three per housing but the back ones don't get nearly the abuse as the internal one.
If it ends up not being the stops, the second primary cause is typically the headlight gear/motor itself. Which is also an easy parts swap but you need to buy the new gear and rebuild it, or buy a new headlight motor and swap it in.

This could be it. Do a search for headlights not staying closed - there should be a number of threads on this.
