Default Interior Sound Deadening

So, since I had the rear carpet loose to run the wires for the backup cam and the exhaust valve wiring, I decided to throw some sound deadening material back there.
Just got a little done so far, then had to take a break to run to the UPS store to return the roller tools amazon sent me, because they sent the wrong ones.
And, even though there isn't much back there yet, and the carpet is out, I believe I can tell a difference in exhaust noise coming through.
Maybe it is because the part I covered so far is at the very back where the exhaust outlets are closest.
Goes on fairly easy, but since amazon sent me the wrong roller tool set, will be end of week before I can get all the materiel rolled out for the best bond.
Looking forward to getting it all done and the carpet back in, that along with the new quieter exhaust, should make for a much nicer ride.

Got a little more done, but the skeeters and nearly standing on my head fitting pieces of this stuff, and I packed it in for the night.
My appointment to get the exhaust done is in the a.m., maybe get back on it tomorrow afternoon.

Behind the seats and the doors had a big impact also. Now you may start hearing other sounds that you never heard before, like piston slap before it warms up or other creaks.

Guess we'll see.
The new exhaust is so much quieter than the Borla Stinger, that it already seems like a totally different car, it's so quiet inside now.
Looking forward to it getting even more quiet once all the sound deadening material is down and all the carpet is back in place.

The most resonant noise comes from behind the seats. You can slap your hand on that big flat panel and it sounds like a drum. You could use the same material you have to reduce vibration, and then tape a section of mass loaded vinyl, MLV, to block sound. MLV is like rubber so you lay it down in sheets. I also wrapped it around my wheel wells in the cargo area, but it took a bit of cutting to shape it. Very effective stuff when used in conjunction with mat and foam layers.

I finished doing the cargo area just a little while ago, and yes, I did cover the wheel wells.
I haven't put the carpet back in yet, still have to lay the wiring for the exhaust valves, but I did put the covers back on the storage compartments, which I also lined with sound deadener, and I tossed the carpeted cargo mat in, and took a drive to walmart, and the interior is so QUIET now, it is just amazing!
It's going to be even better with the carpet back in, going to be great!
The new head unit won't be competing with the exhaust to be heard!

I made a thread a while back about "Quality of life mods" and this is definitely one that adds as much "quality of life" to the drive as the C7 seats!

It comes as a box of rectangular pieces, you just cut it to fit, mold it up, over and around the ridges in the floor.
Super sticky, peel backing and stick it down.
Mine came from amazon, best price I found,

I did something similar (and much more) almost 20 years ago - time well spent. That is something almost everyone mentions if they go for a ride "I didn't expect a Corvette to be this quiet!"

Adding the sound deadening is a game changer for these cars. You’re going to love it. And it’s not just noise alone, it makes the car feel more solid inside. Enjoy!

Good to see another new product. I used the Siless version of same type of mat, also on Amazon, on my Ram resto two years ago and the cab is quieter than new trucks.

Yeah, definitely not going that far!
Just doing the cargo area was a big enough drain on me, and I didn't go as far back there as you did!
And, my understanding, after some additional research, is that you really don't have to cover every square inch, just major areas to reduce vibration and resonance.

They have always said that when the engineers were tasked with designing the C6 they needed to improve on the C5 biggest weaknesses; headlamps, sound/heat insulation and seats. I did the full Vettenuts precut base kit in my '99 FRC and yes it took some time and effort, but it was well worth it. My wife and I were both amazed at the difference. I also use a trunk partition too. Makes me wonder how quite it would be with their premium 2-layer kit, maybe like say something on the XLR level of quite?

I have 6 sheets left after doing the cargo area.
Now, my two corner storage compartments look like patchwork as I used all the cutoff pieces to do them.
I may put a couple of sheets on the bulkhead behind the seats, but only if I can get to it without taking anything else loose besides the carpet.

might have lower the engine cradle….just kidding. Removing the carpet should do the trick. I don’t recall if I unbolted the seat for a little more room, but no biggie if you do…

If you have spare of the heavy material not the foam stuff....
..... I took all the plastic panels off and fixed some to the back sides. Not to cover them. And done carefully so the pieces fit back in place. But to dampen vibration. Tap the cheap plastic afterwarsa and it sounds much heavier and less cheap rattle cage.

Looks great! My 04' was a minor flood car so while I had the seats and front carpets out I did the floors, trans tunnel and behind the seats. Never drove it without it but it is quieter and cooler inside than other C5s I have owned. My car is straight piped too so it can be a little loud / drone-y.
