Thought about putting a front splitter on my C5 convertible.Just wanted to get some ideas and thoughts about adding a front splitter.Good or bad
I have the same car as you have even the color. I skipped the splitter. I love the look but I already scrap the air dam on everything now and even in the owners manual GM refers to the air dam as a normal wear item.
If I was on the track for sure but if you street drive much matters on where you drive and where you live. In my area Ohio the inclines are sharp and things like to scrap. Now out in California where we have a place it is not so bad.
You also can have brain farts and forget about curbs and parking stops as it will take one out and give you a Oh #$T moment.
There is no right or wrong it is a matter of what you can live with and how disciplined you are driving.
My Fiero I have an air dam on it because the stock nose like to make the nose lift at 100 MPH and it really made the car feel sketchy. It is mostly a show car but it did improve the cars stability as well as did the vented hood. I just have to really watch where I go and parking.
Note too you may have flatbed issues. It is hard to pull a car on a truck with a winch with one and the incline may smash it. I made the one on the Fiero a fast release so if I ever needed towed It would not hinder the haul.
Great looking car! I have the same 2002 torch red convertible with black top and red interior. Same rear spoiler as well. Really like those wheels on the car. I they stock C6 Z06 wheels and sizes? They look great!
Hmmm. Looks like the church parking lot behind Harbor Freight in Coventry. My son did preschool there.
Yes it is!! Thats our church. Both my boys went to that pre-school. When did your son go there? Mine are 12 and 9 years old so its been a few years. You still in the area??
Thanks for the comment. My car is a 2000 Torch red black top light oak interior.I put a new black top on the car because I didn’t like the tan top.I put a new set of C7 Z06 replicas on the car which I think really looks good. The car has only 27 k miles
Well the car looks great. I agree with you, the black top looks better. Not much of a tan top guy. I am going to look into those wheels. They are just awesome looking!

‘It’s been longer. He is now 24 years old now and he is an accountant.
I used to pick him up there in the winter in my HHR SS and pull the E brake in the snow and spin it around there. He loved that.
A C5 front splitter - also known as a overheating wing. Most of these impede airflow to the radiator and make cars run very hot, with no real benefits. Becareful which one you buy, the cool looking ones have problems.
Boy I know that's a fact. Bought my 2000 convertible out of Tulsa last year. Tried 3 core Aluminum rad, trackspec. heat vent, still wanted to run 230 till I took the splitter off. Walla, instantly dropped 30 degrees, thanks to someone on this forum for the cure. Thanks
They do look great. I currently have one sitting on the floor in my garage. Unfortunately, I did some testing when I got it and discovered that there would be no way for me to get in and out of my very steep driveway without smashing it. I agree with all that has been said. They can cause issues, but a lot depends on the specific splitter and how and where you use your car. If you do choose to get one be very careful. It only takes one careless moment to damage it.
A C5 with a front splitter better have a center opening for air to go to the radiator if not it will run 30-35 degrees hotter.Toke mine off the first day I drove it.
