I have an a/c control that has the display lighten dim. Is it a better idea to get the oem repaired or replace it with a new ebay unit? Anybody have any experience with the aftermarket controllers?
No experience with aftermarket parts but there are many u-tube videos showing how to repair the dim lights. I have done it twice. Took me about 2 hours (3 beers) I didn't want to send mine out for repair and figured I would attempt to do it myself. C5 Corvette HVAC control issues, typically manifested as dim, intermittent, or blank displays, are commonly repaired by
resoldering eight "241" resistors on the internal circuit board, which fail due to heat cracking. This DIY fix requires removing the center console, extracting the unit, and using a soldering iron to reflow the solder
This video describes removal and repair of the unit:
I did the dim resistor fix three times on my OEM unit over the last 24 years or so and it finally gave out again. I bought a new unit from Rock Auto. 100% improvement.

Did you notice the new controller being a Chinese made?

I ordered one of those new cheap climate controllers from eBay. My OEM controller has a bunch of cracking buttons so I want to see how the aftermarket unit holds up. I'll let you know how it goes and if it is cheap chinesium garbage or if it is decent.
