I am giving so thought to having my stainless exhaust tips powder coated in either a gloss black or a more flat black look.
Wondered if anyone has tried this and what you thought about it.
Are the exhaust tips easy to keep clean?
Any wear and tear showing up on them?
Thanks
I ran black coated tips for years. I really like the look personally.
The coating on the tips I had was sturdy beyond my expectations.
Thanks for the info! Any particular cleaning do's or don'ts you recommend? Yours appear to be almost a flat black. Do you think that aided in cleaning and maintaining them? Thanks, again!
You could try using a chemical gun blueing. It's cheap and easy. Plus, it would be super easy to re-apply if it starts to wear. Depending on the bluing, it will result in a nearly gloss black finish. I think it would be a pretty cool look. I haven't done it to an exhaust, but I have done it to my swords.

Are your tips polished, now? If so, another option is to have them beadblasted for a satin finish. Cheaper than powdercoating and would look good against your car's white exterior.
Just an idea.

They are probably closer to a satin. Little bit of sheen to them. I think one of the nice things about them is they kinda hide any filth really well.
I would deep clean them every 2 or 3 car washes using Adams Wheel cleaner and the soot would just melt off of them making them look like new.
It was worth it.
I currently have Speed Engineering stainless steel tips on the car and I kind of miss the black.

Interesting thought....this would be a unique approach. Thanks!

Another idea I had not even considered. Tips are polished, so the beadblasted finish would be different.

Thanks for the follow up info.
Appreciate everyone's inputs. Gives me some ideas for both now and for later on. Thanks!!
You're giving me things to think about. I am considering blacking out the lower curve of the bumper on the Z06. I don't know yet if I would prefer polished or dark exhaust there wen done. I have considered the same or similar for the Tiger Shark coupe where I definitely prefer the blacked out upper bar for the lights and plate but may consider the lower valance as well. On THAT one I think blacked out 4" dual pipes at center would look good!!

That was part of my thought, too, Brett. I have the Corvette Creationz Diffuser in Carbon Flash Metallic and I thought the black exhaust might be less of a contrast; plus, the shiny black really emphasizes when the exhaust is not "tip top".
