[Z06] Ouch!!!!!
No offense, but they can't hold your car like that. It is not their responsibility if you want to drive it or not. It's your car........They just told you that to get you to spend all that money with them. Next time say thanks, but no thanks and order a tire from Tire Rack for $279 + shipping, and you can get it installed for under $20. All in all you should save at least $100 as opposed to the dealers raping......
And as far as bullseye repair on your windshield - buy a kit from auto supply store (or Target where I got mine) - works Perfect.

Just curious...

Maybe it's different in Humble, TX; but what establishment is going to dismount/mount a 295 series tire on an 18" rim ... not to mention high speed balance it (preferably on the car) for $20 [especially when they didn't even get the sale of the tire]?
Just curious...

BTW: I believe you may wish to check again because Discount Tire doesn't sell Goodyear F1's 295/30 18's for $250.
Discount tire will dismount/mount and balance for $18+tax per tire....been there ...done that.....however, there is a Super Wal-Mart by my house with all the latest equipment (Euro TIre changer, etc.) that will do it for $11 a tire. And don't say anything about the Wal-Mart personnel, they are the same young kids you find at any tire shop, and do just as good a job. If you are like me, you stand there and "supervise" the installation anyway....
I feel your pain. The day I drove my car home from the dealership I picked up a nail in the passenger rear tire. :banghead: It was about 1/2" from the side wall. Nobody in town would repair the tire, said the nail was to close to the side wall. So, I ended up getting a new tire from the local Good Year dealer for $305 (this included tax, mounting and balancing).

PS: Wal-Mart is a great place to big up Mobile1 in the big jugs. :blueangel:

The only place in Atlanta I know tht does on car balancing is Grand Tourismo, and their work drives smooth as Ice. However I would not spend the money on it.
Find a shop and tech you can trust with the work. In Atlanta I know a few people I can trust with my wheels.
And before I forget racing bro;) , congrats on your new ride! Gran Tourismo East is exactly the shop I was referring to. In fact, should anyone need tires, balancing, or alignment in the Atlanta Area they should definitely check out GTE and ask for Harris Conner, VP (tell 'em I sent ya!). He certainly knows his business well (a true racing enthusiast) and does first rate work at reasonable prices. You want high prices call Butler tire.

I would add that these centers are certainly light-years ahead of the local Chevy dealers, half of whom can't even perform simple repairs properly. The only equipment piece dealers and GY stores have others may not is the special safety equipment needed to remove the EMT runflats, which is the only run-flat tire requiring that safety equipment because of its obsolescent design.
Bottom line is, Thom got swindled by the dealer and the tactic of refusing to release the vehicle is flat illegal. Had they been of good faith, they would have offered Thom a loaner while he shopped for a better tire deal and brought them the tire, if they were truly concerned for his safety. I would file a formal complaint with the BBB and GM.
Called Pep-boys, Discount Tire, and Sears here locally (just to check out your claim), none of which indicated that they were equipped to balance tire/wheels on the car. In fact, when talking to Sears the moment I mentioned that it was a Corvette that I was interested in having the work done on he asked the year ... I told him an '02, and he immediately suggested that I take the vehicle to a performance shop since, according to him, they weren't accustomed to working on a high line car--his words.
Go ahead and take your Corvette to Sears and the like and take your chances, but stop trying to misinform fellow brethren when you're obviously misinformed.
Cheers,
VetterMan
