Suddenly for no reason in particular, my Z is grinding going into third gear. :cry It seems worse when downshifting from 4th to 3rd, but it grinds slightly when going from 2nd to 3rd. Damn, this car only has 3,000 miles on it and now I have to take it to the dealer for God knows how long to get fixed. Has anyone else had a problem with grinding?
Re: Anyone having grinding problems with third gear? (Nat02Z06)
At 5000 miles on my 02 Z06 I had several times I could not get my car to shift out of third gear without apply lots of pressure. Not long after having this problem I could no longer shift to third without grinding. My chevy dealer was very gracious and decide to get me a new one without even taking my old one apart! I just picked up the car tonite. I am planning to add a Hurst shifter in the near future!
My advice, shop several dealers for the best service deal! I'm sure the winning dealer will get paid a good sum from Chevrolet. I gave the business to a very small dealer in a town of 5000!

Re: Anyone having grinding problems with third gear? (fredfryguy)
I experienced a little grinding at Mid-Ohio two weeks ago. Only downshifting, not upshifting. Since then no repeats. But I am keeping an eye (ear?) on it. My concern is that I have upgraded to a Hurst shifter, and am worried that a dealer will void the transmission warranty because of it. Or if they see the six-point harnesses they would automatically assume the car has been "abused" (it hasn't). Any thoughts regarding my worries?
