[Z06] 350z's lol
Then after all that, you back to your Nissan dealer to have it fixed, and guess what? You're not covered by the warranty anymore!!! I can flog my Z06 all day long, eating 350Z's for snacks along the way, and if it breaks (which it probably won't because it was made for this), I simply call up the dealer and say 'fix it', and its done! There's a lot of power in a warranty. You'll learn that as you get older. :yesnod:
1) As a 350Z driver, I am quite happy with my car. It's not a Z06, it's not a C5, hell it's not even an LS1 F-body. Straight-line speed, I think it's most comparable to an LT-1 F-body. As far as handling goes, it's quite competent. The 350Z is really a jack of all trades but master of none, as is the case with most Japanese cars these days.
2) I came out the door $30K incl. TT&L for my Enthusiast model which lacks only the stability control, Brembo brakes, and 18" lightweight forged rims of the Track model. My 350Z was less expensive than a no-option 2002 Trans Am!
3) I love Vettes and my next car will *definitely* be a C6. However, where does one draw the line for car bashing? You always see LS1 >> LT1 on the F-body boards, Z06 >> C5 here, Z06 >> ZR-1, domestic >> import, etc. Seriously, we're all car enthusiasts, and we need not bash each other down all the time. Yeah, I think any 350Z (or any stock import) owner who claims to put 5 car lengths on a Z06 off a 40 punch is full of crack and needs to go back to jr. high school.
4) The only Japanese car that *might* force GM to raise the bar is the upcoming 2005 (?) Infiniti GT-R, aka R35 Skyline GT-R. Supposedly, it's going to be based on the FM platform, be a 2+2 coupe with new bodywork, and have a twin-turbo VQ35DE V-6 engine. Not sure of the power output, but I don't think > 380 HP is unreasonable. As for cost, I am totally impressed with Nissan's ability to share platforms, parts, and engines. The new GT-R should come in well under $50K. Nissan shouldn't disappoint with this car; remember, the Skyline has just as much of a cult following in Japan as the Corvette does here in the US.
Yeah, I might be a sell-out, but after a blown alternator (37k mi), broken window regulator (40k), pop-up headlights with a mind of their own, and an intake manifold oil leak (50k) on my 97 Firebird, I needed a break from the relationship with my service manager. I'll come back to GM in a few years when they get the bugs with the C6 wrinkled out.
As a first year car, the 350Z has its share of bugs. Grease streaks on windows, front tire feathering/cupping, and transmission grinding are all problems. They'll get fixed in '04. OTOH, these problems are small potatoes compared to the '97 C5 -- faulty fuel pump, disintegrating magnesium wheels, column lock, and locked up rear ends at highway speeds. Yikes!
FWIW, I don't really plan on modding my 350Z beyond anything simple like a cold air induction or catback exhaust. The engine is already waaaay strung out and optimized. I'd say I could get 300 HP N.A. at most. I don't think the LS6 is too far behind in terms of optimization either; there are really no big gains to be had until you go NO2, forced induction, or internal mods.
And now lets have a :grouphug:
Well, its good you have a sense of humor, because the 350Z's performance is laughable compared to the Z06. You're really making a big mistake trying to compare the two. You'll find yourself endlessly frustrated trying to get the 350Z to even equal the Z06's performance for under the price of a Z06 while maintaining full warranty and emissions. In fact, you'll find it impossible! [/QUOTE]
Dude, you are too angry...really. Never would I think that a stock 350z will run down a Z06. All I am saying is that people should not discount the 350Z on the street. "97Firehawk" seems to be a bit more down to earth. Are you so angry b/c you missed a gear, and a 350z beat you or something? I am sorry for what ever set you off. You are generating a bunch of talk on 350Z forums about all the bashing. Your entitled to your opinions and test reports and such, but really, does it make that much difference in your life, if you did loose to a 350Z? Do you feel that much better about your self if you ran a 350z and won. Tell you what, Come over and run me, you will win , and the world will be a better place with another happy driver who just had to prove his point.
Oh, and don't forget something: I've got the 350Z's cousin car on order: the G35 Coupe with the 6 speed. So obviously, I think pretty highly of the car. I just will never view it as a Z06 replacement or anything close to it. In fact, it will serve as my daily driver, while the Z06 will remain my weekend toy.
