[Z06] Steering column lock problem???

Steering column lock problem???
As I got in my Z this morning, I cranked it up as usual, and the info board read, "Service Column Lock" Well, I decided to try and back out of my garage and the steering wheel wouldn't turn at all! I called the dealer and they had a wrecker come pick it up. The dealer said that he thought there was a recall on the 2002 Z06 due to this problem. He said it was something to do with a switch activated when the shifter wasn't functioning properly. Anyone ever had this problem, or ever even heard of this?

I'm posting again due to the lack of anyone posting. I would like to know if anyone has ever heard of this or knows what causes it. Everything is fixed now, but I would like to hear what y'all have to say. Thanks.

Steering Column Lock is a very well known problem. Do a search and you will find TONS of information. A lot of members install a Column Lock Bypass that disables the lock from functioning. I have one in my Z. I bought it from Corvettes of Houston. :seeya

Well, lets say about 60-70% of C5 will have CL issue.
My 99 had it 3 times.

When i went to pick it up, the service department had already closed, so I didn't get to talk to the technician. But on the service sheet it said that they replaced the column lock. So I don't know any real details about it or anything. Oh well, it's fixed now. :smash:

I had this with my 02 Z... luckily it reset itself and I could start it again... I just left it in the garage and overnighted the Column Lock Bypass from COH and Ernie installed it... now no more worries...

I got the same message in DIC "Service Column Lock" the steering wheel did not lock but when I put the car in gear (Z06 6 speed) the car stalled it happened 10 or 11 times... had car flatbedded to dealer. It went in after techs left it is stuck there until atleast Monday ...has anyone had this problem of stalling :mad
