I have a 03 Z06 the dealer let me take home overnight. My question is that when I turn off the engine there is a rattle that lasts about 1-2 seconds. Sound like it is the clutch maybe. Is that normal or what? The car has 31 miles on it. Thanks
Tough to figure out what it might be without being right there. However, there shouldn't be any rattles (noise) once the engine is shut off. Sometimes you'd get a rattle from the shifter but that is when the engine is running only.
Yes I have the same noise. With the clutch pressed down, it will be no noise. Sometimes I hear the same noise when the engine is idling but when I press the clutch down, the noise disappears.
It's most likely "clutch fork rattle" rather than "gear rattle". That's why depressing the clutch pedal eliminates the noise. With the clutch engaged the fork is free to wiggle around.
Gear rattle usually occurs at low revs and high torque, such as starting out or lugging the engine down to low revs and then accelerating. It's normal and transient in nature and is common to many manual transmission cars. So is clutch fork rattle.
