I had my dealership install my hurst shifter and they claim that they could not reinstall the rubber boot that DRAMATICALLY reduces road noise. This things sounds terrible now! Did you guys get the boot to fit back on or did you trim it or what? Thanks in advance, Gary Someday I need to learn how to post a pic of my car with my posts. Gary

Lots written on this forum on the Hurst and other aftermarket shifters making noise. Do a search and you will learn some things to do to help with the noise. :nopity

Yeah,
Without the rubber boot, you are really up a creek with noise.
It is EASY to get to the shifter to put some sound deadener in, just do a search here and there will be at least one good writeup on installing a shifter.
Basically, take off the center console and then you can add whatever you want.
I have so much deadener material (Lowe's or Home Depot will have whatever you need) in there that my shifter boot doesn't sink down into the console any more.
I still have a shifter rattle that drives me nuts though, I'm constantly fiddling with the stick (that sounded dirty) trying to get it in a position where it doesn't rattle. (that sounded dirty too!)

Mine rattled till I put the donut from the stock plate shifter on it, now life is good no rattle and I'm using the stock shift ****.

Re: ? for those using a hurst shifter. (fact5racer)
All the mechanic had to do was follow the instructions that came with the Hurst shifter. Of course I am assuming that they can read...
What may have fooled them was the fact that even when you invert/push out the boot the other way it doesn't seal neatly around the base of the Hurst. I cut a couple of circles from a piece of 1" thick foam, cut a hole in the middle of them, slipped them down over the gear stick and it has cut down the drivetrain noise to be as good as stock.
If they left off the boot completely then it certainly is going to be loud, even just fitting it back over the hole without a full seal around the new shifter is going to help A LOT !
I took it apart today and just cut off the 5/8 inch of rubber that protrudes down and got it to fit perfect around the Hurst shifter. Now it is just as quiet as OEM. Wish I had saved the $$$$$$$$$ and installed the shifter myself. Yes , I have learned a lesson. Now all I need to do is learn how to post a picutre of my vette under each posting? Thanks Guys, Gary

Im going to be installing a B&m shift very soon. Is there anything I should know?
Im assuming, remove the 4 bolts, take the rubber boot from the stock shifter, invert it and place it over the new B&M shifter. Do I put that plastic ball at the end of the stock one on the new one also?
Re: ? for those using a hurst shifter. (fact5racer)
Lots of patience, do not rush and do let the demon key get you upset and rushed. Be gentle with the plastic trim from the inside of the car, do not yank on it or try to force it into place. It all works and fits slow and easy. Even an old cripple like me can do it.
I trimmed the rubber shifter boot, as per the Hurst instructions. Worked great, and makes a tight seal against the shifter to minimize noise. I still get some rattle under heavy throttle through the shifter, but its not bad enough for me to work on it.
Re: ? for those using a hurst shifter. (fact5racer)
Why trim it I just turned mine inside out. If I ever return to stock, not likley, I can just straighten it out. It fits like a charm inside out, I am working on sealing it better to quell some of the humming from the area>

I have had my Z06 for 2 weeks and 6,000. Bought it off the forum. The previous owner, Joe, installed the hurst shifter and am I glad he did. IT IS NOT NOISY. My friend likes it so much he's looking for one for his ZR1. I can get you Joe's e-mail if you want. I am sure he would be more than happy to help you. eegle
