Default Z06 vs. C5

Both cars being stock, how close would it be from say 50-140 mph? What would one have to do to a C5 to run with a Z? Believe me, I'm not intimidated by the coupe, but I'm curious to know the chances of one running me down and blowing my doors off. :boxing

Seat of the pants responce: My C5 is really hot from 50 to well over 100 and I've been to 150 and 160 plus several times. But the Z06 is much stronger and pulls in an impressive manner... Stock machines there would be little chance that the C5 could stay with a Z06!

Neil.

The ZO6 is the one to go with in this case.

Here's a Horsepower to weight ratio of the C5, 01 and 02 Z06

1. C5

Weight 3250 HP 345 Ratio 9.42

2. 01 Z06

Weight 3117 HP 385 Ratio 8.09

3. 02 Z06

Weight 3117 HP 405 Ratio 7.69

I had a 2000 Coupe with headers and an aftermarket air intake and there's just no comparison. The Z is lighter, stiffer and just simply a better car. I'm not knocking anyone that drives a a regular C5 or any Corvette, I love them all. However, from a techical point of view, the Z is the faster car, stock vs. stock

writting from experience...an 01 Z06 with a cai and exhaust (my car) vs. a stock C5 (friends car) from a 70 to 140, I put about 5 cars on him.

so, an 02 Z06 stock would put the same amount on the C5 as my very lighlty modded 01 Z06 did. Approx 5 cars.

when I had my 99 convert, I had air intake computer and exhaust and thought it was really quick, until I met a Z. he really spanked me, like I wasnt even racing and he was stock. I gave it all I had and then thought wonder where a Z for sale is?
:smash: Zis much faster!

Stock for stock, a Z06 is going to get 4-5 cars at least on a stock Coupe/Vert. Start modding either one and comparisons are tossed out the door. I raced a guy who is a VERY good driver against his '03 Z06 and airbox versus my Coupe with intake, headers, cat-back, and 4.10 gears. From 40-155mph or so, I had him by about 2 cars. Of course, when he put headers and a few more miles on his Z06, we were nearly dead even with me by a nose.

Gearing and the extra 500rpm plays quite a big role in the advantage of the Z06 over the C5.

BTW, a Z06 is a C5 too.

J-Rod is still stock and he is close to you. His only mod is a removed airbox lid. You guys should go at it from a roll and lets see what happens.

However, from a techical point of view, the Z is the QUICKER car, stock vs. stock. -- Overall your correct the Z is a definate upgrade & is always 1 up.

I wish you lived close too, Rbartick. A few face-to-face conversations would go a long way towards resolving our volatility on the forum.

Concerning, Mr. J-Rod, I would love to do a couple 20-40mph punches to 150mph or so. Redline in 5th gear with my stock limiter and 4.10 gears is just under 155mph, so going to 6th gear on the big end slows down my acceleration dramatically, but up until that point there hasn't been any stock or near stock Z06's that beat me.

If J-Rod ever comes up to Big D, I'd be happy to meet up with him.

Settle down big guy. :D I never considered our conversations volatile. I consider them competitive. FWIW, I have a really hard time believing that an 03 Z06 with an airbox & headers is unable to pull your LS1 with an airbox, headers, catback, and gears. He should be laying down about 50 more RWHP than you and the gearing difference with your 4:10s isn't all that much in most gears due to the lower gearing of the Z06 tranny. Oh well, debating this online really isn't going to cause anyone to change their view of things. Enjoy what you got.

like I said earlier.... :boxing

for whatever reason, this topic gets even stickier than the z06/cobra debates....

I'm biased to the Z. Both cars are "World Class", but I've never had the opportunity to race or drive a coupe.

In no way did I mean to insinuate that our conversations would turn physical in any shape or form. :D Our cars may go at it pretty hardcore, though. :D I understand what you're saying and while 50rwhp might be pushing it a bit as I made about 337rwhp running rich like 11.6:1 from 4000rpm to redline on the dyno. Also the 4.10 gears supposedly 'sap' a bit of power from the dyno. Anyway, let's say 40rwhp for comparison sake, maybe 50rwhp on a very nicely running Z06 with headers/airbox.

So, now we're sitting at a bit more gearing leverage from my car in 1st-3rd gear to 'help' a bit with the power deficit. Where I think I really hold the Z06 off is in 4th gear where our gear ratios are both 1:1, but my final drive of 4.10 to the 3.42 is pretty dramatic. Both vehicles have identical wheel/tires due to my '03 Z06 wheel/tire setup.

Anyway, I'm just posting personal observations, we could benchrace all day, but I'd love to do a few punches with a stock/near stock Z06 that happens to cruise through Dallas. All the one's around here that I've run, I've been able to hold off. Of course, a lot of other one's have a cam and full intake/exhaust and easily KILL my car BAD.

Here we are just mentioning peak numbers. A headers/airbox LS6 has more RPM and should have a lot more area under the upper RPM HP & Torque curve than a headers/airbox LS1. These upper RPM areas are exactly where you are going to be spending all of your time while racing. In any event, drive safely and lets try to keep these debates friendly.

You have a good point. Again, maybe I'm just a better driver, but they guy I raced had a modified Mustang that he dragraced frequently before he dumped it and got this Z06. But, again, I have more experience under my belt on how to extract every last bit of performance out of my car and to this other's guy credit he had only had his Z06 for a relatively short period of time and admitted to me that he was still learning how to get the most out of it.

This was a few months back, so maybe if we raced again, I would probably lose. They guy I raced is 'goldmember' on this forum, it's a yellow Z06. :D Anyway, get him in this thread and maybe we could run again for comparison's sake.
