Default Check Engine Light - Code: P0171

My Check engine light come on last night on my 2002 Z06, and the code recoreded was P0171. I did some reading on OBDII codes and P0171 read system too Lean (Bank 1). According to the list of codes , there are several reasons why this code was generated, but most indicate fuel or air mixture issues. Has anyone had this same code? If so, what ended up being the problem?

Yes, I've gotten that code. I also have had my check engine light come on and that code is there afterwards. The check engine light goes away after the code is reset. I think I am getting this because of the Blackwing.

gasman29,

Thanks for your reply. Do you regularly get the check engine light, or was it just a one time issue? I have had a RM Racing Twin Air Flow since I bought the car, and this was the first time the check engine light came on.

I've gotten the check engine light 2 or 3 times now. Only 1300 miles on the odometer. The last 2 times I got it, it stayed on for a few start/stop cycles. Then I checked the codes, and got the P0171, and the code for the other lean bank condition. After I reset the codes, the check engine light went away with the next start. I have the RM racing twin flow on my coupe, and have never had a problem. It must be a Z thing. I think others have thrown codes with their Blackwings also on their Zs. The PCM must not be able to adjust properly with the increased airflow yet. I hope this won't become an ongoing thing. If it does, I am going to make a trip to 21st Century Musclecars in Dallas to get a dyno LS1 edit tune. :D

Usually it means you are getting unmetered air after the MAS. Do you have an aftermarket intake? Yes or no, first thing is to check all the connections to be sure you don't have an air leak.
