Guys,
I have a Zo6. Please read this chain of events and help me come up with a diagnosis of the problem.
1. Had just taken a 40 minute trip. Stopped to get gas. When I went to start the car, the entire dash was out (instrument cluster, radio, and AC...all shut down) as well as the engine and power seats!...After a few turns of the key, the car eventually restarted, but instruments didn't come back. I drove it for about a 1/4 and the engine shuts down again. Finally got it going again and went home.
2. Next day, as I pulled in to get gas (driving alot), the dash went out again, but engine ran.
Well, sound like you need to stay away from those gas stations
Have you called the dealer yet? Takening it in would be my first place to start, don't hesitate either. :flag
Sounds like you should have set some codes. Turn the key to the on position, Hold down the "Fuel" button on the DIC, and as you're holding it down press the "Options" button on the DIC (three or four?) times quickly and a sequence displaying any codes set will begin. Write down the codes and look them up. I belive there is a description of what the codes mean somewhere on this site. - Good luck.
You could pull up the codes. Do a search for the procedure to pull up the computer codes here and try that.
But I'd take it to the dealer and tell them what happened and have them hook it up and see what the problem is - PROBABLY a bad connection somewhere in the computer.
Check your battery too - is it leaking? If it is - or has, it leaks right on the computer wiring and trashes it.
I agree with the above statements. Don't let them get away with saying they don't know anything because there are no codes being thrown and by the way here's your car back. Tell them you want to leave it and get a loaner. Don't stop pressing them until they fix the problem. If they do a temporary fix you may end up with something wrong after your warranty is up and it'll probably cost an arm and a leg.
Possible cause:
This is a quote from the April meeting of my vette club.
"B. The second item was the matter of the C5 battery. The Delco battery has a history of having the terminal bolts being too long from the factory. These can pierce the plastic battery case and cause an acid leak onto the computer. We have surfaced this scenario previously and cautions owners to have their battery checked to make sure they are not leaking onto the computer. Keep an eye on the positive side of the battery. Take your vehicle to a trusted Chevrolet dealer or someone you trust and don’t let insurance companies bully you into otherwise.
Just a possibility.
Sounds like an electrical grounding problem. There have been known issues with loose ground wires on C5's. I forgot where the usual spots are to look, but have your dealer check all the TSB's for electrical grounding issues.
You should definately leave it at the dealership, and ot drive it 'til it is fixed. You never know, you can have the same problem going 70 on the freeway, then you will be in deep poopie.
