I recently purchased an exhaust off a Z06 for my coupe. Though the guy was very courteous and good to deal with, I had some issues I wanted to ask the forum about.
First off, the tips simply didn't align correctly as the passenger side hung about .5 inch lower. The guy said this was common to all Z06's. Anyone experience this? Is this truly 'normal'?
Second, the bottom side of all 4 tips had this discoloration/corrosion on them. It wouldn't come out with Mothers metal polish. Is this normal? Is there a way to remove this?
Unfortunately for those of us who appreciate fit and finish, the alignment issues are not uncommon. My stock titanium exhaust was aligned fairly well and my new 2-tip stingers are only slightly off. Sometimes a good, detail oriented installer can compensate for hanger and overall alignment problems. Ive seen some that are horribly done. By the way, nice IU plate! I was at IU for undergrad and grad school. I miss Bloomington.
mine were off a bit too and before I took delivery they adjusted them. That was right from the factory that the left side was off....now they are perfect..
It is not uncommon to have tips that are a little out of allignment. .5inches is not that bad. They probably could be adjusted evenly but it will take some time and patience.
As far as the residue. I have 4,000 miles on my Z06 and I am constantly wiping black residue off the tips. I also drive the car VERY aggressive. The residue is normal.

But this stuff doesn't come off...they'd already been polished and that was left. :nonod:
The discoloration is from the drain holes. I polish mine weekly so no problem. Yours might not have been cleaned regularly. I doubt anything will help now. Just keep them polished/waxed so it doesn't get worse.
My tips were a little off too and I was able to adjust them through loosening up the whole system and then having someone tighten everything back up while I had them in position.
As for the discoloration, try some NEVERDULL that stuff works wonders on just about every metal out there. You can get it just about anywhere car stuff is sold. I got mine in Wal-Mart.
I have 8k miles on the 02Z. Do you think that the dealer will fix the misalignment problem. mine is way off and yes it pisses me off. I also have the ping sound that everyone says is caused by the cross over ("H" pipe). Can the dealer fix that or am I wasting my time trying to get them to fix the noise?
