Geeez, Shylor, I don't know what to say. You've got to REV that thing....run it out until the fuel shutoff kicks in. If you don't see it before then, something is wrong. I just saw the shift light in my HUD about 45 minutes ago.
You DO have a C5, right? We are talking about the same HUD, right?
The shift light is not that big, although it is helpful. I didn't notice the rpm that it comes on at, but it is not far from the rev limiter.. Here is a picture of where the shift light is on the hud..
I just took a drive and put my HUD in Tach only mode. I made it a point to watch it carefully. I saw NO shift light in my HUD.
It's not really a shift light. Just the word "SHIFT" comes on in the HUD. It's pretty must useless IMO. I have other things to worry about when drag racing then focus on the word "SHIFT" on my HUD. :steering:
Shylor--I asked what car you had, because your "Profile" indicates you have a 1996 coupe.....I figured I'd better ask.
The above post by 03 QuickSilver answers the location question. Revs? From the Owner's Manual: The SHIFT light will display at an engine speed of about 5750 rpm (6250 on Z06). just prior to reaching the engine fuel cut-off mode.
If you are watching the HUD,you will also see the rest of the RPM scale "X'ed"
out when the shift light comes on.Maybe you have to have more on than just
the tachometer for it to work...I'm not sure. It does come on just before the rev limiter kicks in though.Have fun finding it. :smash:
You can be in the tach only mode for the shift light to work. I don't recall seeing the rpm scale "x-out".....what do you mean by that? "Max out" or "go dark"?
As for the light.....I thought it was useless when I first tried to use it (after I found it!!), but after paying attention to it and with a little practice, I've found that it's not THAT useless. I think that the perception is that it would be like an aftermarket light--bright and unmistakeable--which certainly isn't. But once you train yourself to know where to look, it's useable. I have not used it for a full-throttle powershift, only for speed-shifting. I wonder if you'll hit the rev limiter during a powershift....anyone know?
Having said all that, I think the HUD develpment guy got carried away with his new toy. I mean, who really needs a gas gage there, what with the dashboard gage, reserve fuel and low fuel lights and chimes. Overkill. The HUD only needs speed and tach, IMHO. It doesn't need "check gages", turn signal, hi beam, oil press, and water temp indicators. Too much redundant information.
