Am the proud new owner of an 03 QS/Black Z of about a month. Ordered the 12 disc changer from Radiosandmore. It is the exact same unit put into all the C5's (Pioneer). Install went well.
My question is will this player or should this changer be capable of playing cd r's. My Grand Cherokee plays them ok and the Cobra I traded in played them ok. The cd player up front plays them ok. But in the changer, they play, but all have a hiss or sound scratchy......commerciall cd's play ok. This unit was manufactured 06/03. It seems odd that any cd player or changer built now wouldn't play cd r's.
Depends upon the media.. some CDR's work better than others.. I've heard of this before, and seen it on occasion. No experience on this particular application. My Z06 loves all CDR's with the indash cd deck.
I did the 12 disc mod and only play CD-R discs, and they play great.
The problem is not with the Pioneer, because is plays commercial CDs OK.
The problem is either:
The noise was recorded onto the CD-R
or
Error due to CD-R file format conversion to Compact Disc format.
PCM 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit Stereo should be used when playing CD-R on a CD.
Are you sure the CD-R discs sound good in the dash player?
Are you sure the commercial CDs sound good in the changer?
I run into problems with blank CD-R media that could account for what you're experiencing.
The spindle hole in the center of the disc can cause errattic operation between different players when the hole isn't spec and doesn't seat properly when loaded. Sometimes I run into flashing. DON'T USE LABELS ON THE DISC!
When spindle motors get weak from burned brushes, the sound is scratchy from the servo trying to constantly correct for the motor speed changes. If this was the case, commercial CDs would have the same problem.
Hope this helps...
Try buying CDR disks with a different color media on the underside. Different commecial CD players may or may not have difficulty reading CDR's based on the type of media, noted by the color. For instance, my Pioneer stereo has real trouble with 'green' media disks, but none at all with 'gold' ones. My factory changer for the vette seems to read them all just fine but on bumpy roads I'll notice more skip with CDRs.
