Default Halltech TRAP Long Distance Testing

I just finished my LA to NY run, with over 4500 miles on the TRAP. Alll Long Term Fuel Trims are close to baseline authority (Tech 2 tested) No codes. Not one.

Tech 2 temperature testing shows that the IAT remains ambient after 10 seconds of driving. This allows full timing from the PCM. At 95 degreees the PCM starts retarding the timing up to 12 degrees on the LS1 and 8 degrees on the LS6 based on the intake air temperature. This is why cold air makes such a big difference on the road once the intake air temp settles.

I will not address the power, since my opinion would be biased, but I'll provide some details that some members may have an interest in.

Our 2002 Z06 is stock except for the TRAP and slightly larger RC injectors (no power increase). Stock 2003 Z06 program, with the COTP thresholds increased. Otherwise, all FE tables, timing, ect. are stock.

Dyno numbers 378.8 RWHP/365 RWT with Borla Stingers onboard. 371.8/355 with TRAP and bone stock exhaust.

Fuel mileage average for 3 tanks of fuel. 32.9 mpg (68 mph in 6th gear-generally flat). This is a 10% increase over our stock airbox numbers recorded under similar conditions. This is not real scientific, but we get emails now and then from customers that have likewise found a couple more mpg's with our intake systems.

Fuel mileage with Oxytane experimental fuel stat additive: 34.6 mpg (same parameters) This stuff works by eliminating puddling due to static electricity in the fuel. Fuel droplets are dispursed better and provides a much cleaner burn. No power claims are made by the manufacturer)

Water vs. the TRAP- 1 hour of continuous downpour through Colorado, slowed performance (Tunnel Port open) due to the lack of oxygen at altitude combined with the saturated filter. No hydrolock problems or steam from water ingestion.

I did replace the front Tunnel Port with the stock CORVETTE license plate after 1 hour due to decreasing performance through the mountains with the heavy downpour. 1 minute to intall. All performance issues disappeared.

Once the filter gets completely soaked, it makes for a very poor oxygen transfer medium, and coupled with 12,000 ft., the rich condition slowed the car remarkedly.

I do not recommend driving in the rain with the Tunnel Port (Stage 2) in place, but getting caught in the rain presents no problems at all except performance degradation.

Testing was done with our all new Halltech TRAP CF (all carbon fiber) and Stage 2 (Tunnel Port)
