K&N vs. Stock

I am going to cut out some of my air box cover as soon as I get my hood seal and get a K&N but someone told me that the stock filter was better. :confused:

I think most everyone would agree that if you are going to cut holes in the intake filter cover that you should get a K&N filter, just to be safe.

Is it worth it to cut into your OE air filter cover to replace with an aftermarket air filter? Won't this tend to lower, even if slightly, your resale value? How good are these K and N filters anyway?
