Default Re: smog/halltech question (gto9)

Technically all aftermarket air intakes are for off-road use. I have not seen a C.A.R.B certificate on any of them. If you look at Halltech, BPP, Varam...they all say for off-road use.

That is the legal disclaimer. Of course I have not heard of anyone failing a smog test because of an aftermarket air-intake. I am sure that if someone on the forum had this happen they will let us know. The worst that could happen to you is that you fail the test, you go home put the OEM intake back on, go for a little ride and then have it re-smogged. Get your certificate, go home take off the OEM and put back on you intake of choice.

If you think your car might fail and want to avoid multiple smog tests make the exchange back to stock before the smog test. At most you have spent an hour for each exchange of intakes. With this kind of practice you may be able to do the conversion in less time.

Of course having a 2003 you won't need to get smogged for at least two years. So in two years you might have to go through the hassle of the conversion process.

I am not an expert on California smog rules, so if anyone has additional information please chime in.

John
