I don't race my car , but ive been called out to race ( a dude in a trans am vert) This guy is really annoying!!! So I took him up on it... My question is: what would he have to have to take me ( he wouldnt say what he has under the hood) my guess is nitrous.. Would a nitrous TA beat me?

Listen, I say; "run what you brung & hope you brung enough!". So if his car is worked to the max...of course he should win. He knows what he has & if it's so much work that he knows that he'll win then what;s the point. He's just a moron. Kinda like you racing a stock coupe. You're supposed to win, & if you raced & won,so what? Even if he has a lot of work done, he still has to click off a good run (not sit & spin @ the line, not miss a shift,etc.). I used to beat courvettes all the time on the street w/ my mildly modified 91 Mustang LX because most of the guys couldn't drive for poopie! Just my .02 worth! Good luck!
I know some really bad butt F-body cars. But you can take alot of them. They need lots of mods to beat you ie, heads, cam, nitrous etc. Remember your about 450lbs. lighter than he is. Put it in Comp mode and practice launching a few times. you'll be alright. Have fun.
If he is stock you'll stomp him. I hope your doing this at the track. Loser buys dinner.
Look at it this way, if he knows what you have and is still challanging you to a race then you will most likely loose. If its for money dont do it, if its for fun then why the hell not.
Now if you show up with say some nice slicks, and a 150shot which he will not be expecting then definatly make it worth your while. :smash:
An otherwise stock TA with nitrous will be a good race for you, but if he has good tires(drag radial/slicks/cheaters) then you will loose. Street racing is all about traction.
From personal experience if they guy seems legit, he's proabably got the potential to beat a stock 405hp ZO6. If he's just a BS'er than he doesn't and probably sucks at driving too, beware.
Driving capabilities always come into play when racing. Many slower cars have beaten much faster cars due to bad driving.

So slap on a NOS kit and do some practice runs at the local track. It's all about what you bring to the race and HOW well you drive.
Btw, run on track, not the street. Otherwise you risk losing your Vette, your license and possibly killing/injuring someone (or yourself).
yeah, if you get a good luanch then hes gonna need something a good bit extra to keep, let-alone win.
but on a side note I must agree, unless you yourself know of a absolutely terrific place to run then take it to a track. Ive street raced enough years that my guardian angel has gray hair and needs prozac :D and Ive seen way to many people frag their cars and nearly themselves, all due to one thing or another that just isnt found on tracks (ie, another car pulling out, road debrie(sp?), people almost walking in their path, potholes, ect ect ect) Ive even heard of reflectors on the road cuasing people to lose traction.
That was my point, if he knows what you have and you don't know what he has, who has the best ideal of what the outcome will be. If it is for titles or money, I would probably try to find out more about his car and driving skills. If it is for fun, what the heck.
Just don't race on the street, tracks are for that type of fun.
At most all I think you will need are some drag radials even if he does have nitrous. Z06's run low 12's, high 11's with just drag radials, it would take alot more then nitrous to get a heavy vert T/A near those times.
I had a 2002 Camaro SS with all of the bolt ons and a GM Hotcam, made 393rwhp/380rwtq and ran the 1/4 mile in 12.2@116mph on drag radials all day long. Most heads and cam f-body's run mid 11's and if he has some juice on top of that he has a 10 second car. Just be careful.
The late model LS1 f-bodies with an aftermarket exhaust, cold air system (lid, K&N), and a 150 shot nitrous will do low 12's. However, you have the advantage of independent rear giving you better traction. F-bodies do not grip that well, I know, I had a 95 LT1 Z28 with 320 rwhp running 12.9s with just bolt-ons, and it only got traction at a treated track, it didn't do anything on the street.
If I was a betting man, I would put you in the lead on the street, and if the T/A has these kinds of mods and you being stock, I would put the 2 of you even or the f-body slightly ahead at the track. Put a cold air and drag radials on the car, and you probably have nothing to worry about street or strip.

I have never seen a f-body run mid 11's with only heads and cam...i'm not calling complete BS but that must be one hell of a driver.

Ummm. With a "mild" cam and very little supsension work - I was running 12.0's at 115 mph at FULL weight in a 2001 SS - M6 car. That was bolt-ons and a 224 cam on a crappy day with an average 1.9 60-foot. Car had 11's in her cam only easy and mid-11's with a good hook and some weight out.
With heads - these cars will do low/mid 11's at 119-124 mph with a good short time. So dont be suprised by one - they are plentiful.
But with him being a vert car - he will be a pig. Full boltons and maybe running mid 12's (12.5-12.6) at around 112 mph if he can drive. Cam only - maybe 12.3ish at around 114-115 - H/C I would think high 11's (11.7-11.8) at around 119-120mph. For a 150 shot - reduce it by about .4 and gain about 8 mph or so.
Hell - just roll up and listen for the lope. If he's loping - then you may have your hands full. And my guess is that if he is calling you out - he knows what you got (or could have) and isnt worried about it. And if you are running on the streets - dont allow ET Streets - if he gets the jump off the line - you may not have enough top end to run him down on the big end.
