You said yourself that you don't race your car. So watch out. Racing takes practice. Launching and shifting. I've seen plenty of 13 sec Z06s in my day (and 14 sec LS1 f-bodies). If he's got mods and/or is an excellent driver, and you can't drive for crap, he's gonna walk on ya. Hell, I even once beat an early Viper in my 2000 Camaro SS (automatic) with just a couple bolt-ons (think it had lid and cutout), ran 13.1 and just edged him out.
Also, the vette does have IRS as someone noted, but it is not as good for drag racing as the f-bod's solid axle. It was lightyears easier launching my old Camaro than my new vette.
i say screw him, you don't need to race everytime some punk a## b#### in what he thinks is a fast car wants to race. discression is the better part of valor...
with that said :) i wiped out a 93 mustang with a 351 stroker and a vortech running 2 lbs boost. the guy is named travis and works at the lambs auto on brodie. so if you live in austin stop by and say hi...hehe...he dodged in and out of traffic for about 300 yrds to catch up to me and so we slowed to about 20, i down shifted to 2nd and took off...by 3rd gear i was 4 car lengths up, by 5th i was gone...slowed down to pull next to him and we pulled them over in an apt complex and chatted...nice guy, poor perception.... :reddevil
I completely agree with Hannibal, he is right on IMO. I raced a WS6 with bolt-ons and a cam..somewhere around 405 rwhp to my 391 rwhp Z. He was an automatic with st. converter and really surprised me coming out of the hole. We were both on stock tires, concrete pavement, and he beat me twice from a dig. I realized I couldn't just walk out the hole if I wanted to win and had to up the rpm's and slip the clutch, the third try I beat him.
Each run from a roll, however, was different. In 2nd, and partly through 3rd he kept up...but as 3rd gear wound out I beagan to pull him, and in 4th gear I was gone.
