You have some great choices. I have helped a lot of folks get their first high performance Corvette, usually a Z06. Most simply don't know how to drive a 400+ HP car and need to learn. Corvette clubs and autocrosses are a good start. Road Atlanta has an excellant driving school in a car similar to a Corvette. You will learn a lot. My vote would be to go for a Z06 when you can upgrade when you are ready for more HP. The 06 is going to have more HP!
I have been to Road Atlanta's Audi Driving Experience last August (it was a defensive driving school for teenagers (included skid pad, high speed lane change maneuvering, and autocrossing in a TT hahaha)). It was very educational and a lot of fun at the same time(plus some real cuties there (especially this one blonde who was 17 and drove her daddy's 911 turbo(oh god she was a hottie :yesnod:)). I am going to take either the Panoz Racing School (to get my Class 1 racing liscense) or do the Porsche Driving School at Road Atlanta...I would think that if I was able to handle the power of the 911's at Road Atlanta or the Panoz "race-ready" cars at the track that I would be able to at least start on the Z06's handling or power...
It's great that you understand that you know you are priveledged to possibly own a Z at your age. This shows a certain amount of maturity on your part.
It is, however, disappointing to hear that a father feels a need to keep his son motivated to perform in college by dangling material objects in front of his son. You sound motivated enough to perform regardless. Take the car, if you earn it but never, never let anyone bribe you into performing to expectations other than your own. Perform because of your own motivation and the material things will follow...if material things are important to you.
Your father is helping you think on your own if you really listen to the message he is sending you. ;)
:iagree: Please believe me when I say that this is not my dad motivating me by dangling material objects in front of my eyes :nono: . My dad has always been in love with Vettes in the past 50 or so years (he's almost 70 now), and he simply enjoys rewarding his sons with what they want when they succeed. For example, he is going to put a downpayment on a house for my brother and his wife as my brother graduates from dental school at MUSC in Charleston in 2 years (same time that I WILL EARN MY Z06!!!!). If my brother and I work had and succeed, my dad likes to reward our efforts. It only motivates us to work harder in life. And trust me, I will earn this Z06. I do not like to take freebies, and I doubt my dad would like to give me a $45K freebie if I fail (which I won't). And you make me sound like I am a spoiled little brat who only wants the material things....I would forfeit the Z06 just to prove you wrong :mad . My first sports car was/and still is a 6 cylinder Camaro...I am simply a Chevy guy :chevy . I know how lucky I am to have this chance...which will never present itself again. I am going to succeed and then get my Z06 because it stands for more than an amazing sports car. It will represent my hard work, my success in college, and last but not least an amazing gift from my father. I am not mad....just making my argument and clarifying myself. So to all you naysayers.....F' off!!! To all Vette owners/lovers who support me in my efforts...I have the utmost respect for all of you and I wish there was some way to express my gratitude (and maybe someday there will come a time when I will be able to)...THANKS GUYS!!!!
See ya on the road,
