Hey guys,
This is my first topic in the Z06 section, and I hope you guys can help me. I am 18 (19 on Oct. 8) and a freshman at Clemson University. My father presented some wonderful incentive to get me to study: "Keep your scholarship for two years, and I will buy you a Z06"!!!   My father has always wanted a Vette and he said that he would rather me have an American icon (Z06) than him owning an earlier generation Vette. Needless to say, I am studying hard now (like I wasn't before :jester ). My question pertains to the performance differences between say an '02 Z06 and one of the '05 Vettes (when I would be purchasing Vette). Which car will be better. I am probably still going to get an '02 Z06 just because I love them soooo much and my father doesn't want to buy a new C6 ($$$$ and HP). I know that there are no numbers out for the C6's but I just wanted to know everyone's opinion....
Anyways, don't get all in a huff like some of my friends because I will own a Z06 before I am of legal age to drink alcohol please. I feel extremely priveleged to have this oppurtunity and I know that I am very lucky to have such an amazing Dad  :yesnod:
See ya on the road,

cant help you on what differences there are, but congrats on the deal! just you stay in school! what you get out of college is prize enough in it'self, the vette is just a bonus! And kudos to all the most excellent Dads out there that raise their kids to appreciate things!
Dont sweat it if anyone gives you a hard time becuase your Dad bought you the car. my Dad bought every car Ive owned and the ZO6 was for my 24th birthday and people harassed me endlessly. But when your response to "you didnt buy that! your daddy bought you that!" is a simple "yep!! :D :D " they tend to drop it after a while :D
Considering nobody really knows anything about the C6 yet, your question really can't be a answered. You have lots of time to wait and decide.
If you are a getting the car in two more years (keep studying :smash: ), then you will be purchasing an '06 not and '05, in which case the C6 Z06 will supposedly be released. Sorry, but no one really knows squat about what any C6 will be like, power or looks. You'll just have to wait and see ...
FWIW, what I've heard is that the '05 C6 will have 400-425 hp and the '06 Z06 (or whatever they decide to call it) could have 500hp  But if you ask me, get a used '04 Z06 at that time and save your dad a few bucks. You'll love it all the same

+ YOU'RE OLD ENOUGH TO DRINK IN ALBERTA!

Don't sweat it... just appreciate it, and take care of it. My parents bought me my first car ('95 probe GT 5-spd), paid for half of my second ('97 cobra vert), and gave me the 20k load to buy my Z06. I'm paying for all of the Z and everything that goes with it, but it's nice to avoid interest.
As for the c6 vs. Z... when the time comes you'll be able to snap up an '02 Z for probably 30k. The c6 will probably have similar HP, weigh same or less, and have a great interior w/ HIDs. We'll all know in January

I think thats great what your Father is doing for you. I have Twin Boys who are 3 years old at the time and I will most likely do the same for them, under one condition: that after I get them each a Z06 they will share all the girls that they will be picking up with there Vettes. (LOL) just kidding. Congrats and good luck.
Better study and quite counting your chickens before they hatch....
How do you know if he's a chicken farmer or not? :lolg:
Hey, not everyone at Clemson is a farmer...I am an engineer in training...hopefully able to go into Motorsports Engineering. :jester Hopefully I am not counting my chickens before they hatch....I am studying incredibly hard to get my grades up to the level I need them to be.

You have some great choices. I have helped a lot of folks get their first high performance Corvette, usually a Z06. Most simply don't know how to drive a 400+ HP car and need to learn. Corvette clubs and autocrosses are a good start. Road Atlanta has an excellant driving school in a car similar to a Corvette. You will learn a lot. My vote would be to go for a Z06 when you can upgrade when you are ready for more HP. The 06 is going to have more HP!
It's great that you understand that you know you are priveledged to possibly own a Z at your age. This shows a certain amount of maturity on your part.
It is, however, disappointing to hear that a father feels a need to keep his son motivated to perform in college by dangling material objects in front of his son. You sound motivated enough to perform regardless. Take the car, if you earn it but never, never let anyone bribe you into performing to expectations other than your own. Perform because of your own motivation and the material things will follow...if material things are important to you.
Your father is helping you think on your own if you really listen to the message he is sending you. ;)
