I saw a set of wheels the other day in Roseville, CA at a C5 shop that were
painted instead of chromed dipped. They look far superior to the eye. Are these as durable? I may just have to get a set if they are.
Ladies & gentlemen, don't try this at home! Get a painted wheel, and a chrome wheel. Put them side by side. Applying the same amount of pressure with both hands, and scrub two identical areas on each rim with steel wool. Tell us the outcome. Remember Ladies & gentlemen, don't try this at home! Just having a little fun. I'm checking on some black with polished outers for myself.
I have half painted/half machined wheels. I absolutely love them. I replaced my chrome wheels with them. I don't expect them to hold up as well as chrome due to the clear coat, but unlike chrome, they can always be refinished. Here are a couple of pictures. Not the best quality, but you get the idea.
427CPE - The wheels in our shop (MSI) that you saw were "PermaStar TM Chrome". The wheels (OEM Z06) had pure chromium applied to the painted surface and then protected with a power/liquid coat. The result is a durable, show chrome finish that can withstand some of the most stringet OEM Automobile tests for exterior parts. :steering:
Mikeo- I'll have pictures on my web page by this Saturday. The cost for the complete process is around $220.00 per wheel plus shipping. For addtional information about "PermaStar" go to this web page http://www.goodrichtechnology.com

Those have got to be the best looking chrome wheels I've seen on any car.
I'm seriously thinking about having you guys install those this week. You got a set of 4 in for my 03 z06? Send a price on the forum or email.
I'd like to keep my OEM wheels. You don't require a trade do you?
