If it makes you feel any better, last night was the last night for street drags at IRP...One more month ( gotta clean her up and change all the fluids ) and my car will be ready for a long nap too.
I live in the wonderful South. It hasn't snowed here since 1974. A couple of freezing rains, but for the most part it doesn't stay cold all that long. With that said, I have a beat up old truck for the nasty weather, and the Vette for nice days. If you want to drive your car in the rain and the muck and the goo, by all means that is your right. Some of us like to keep out cars clean top and bottom. I can do crazy 4 wheel drifts in the rain and banzai flooded streets just as well in truck as I can in the Z. Probably a bit better in many cases. So, just understand, many of us don't drive our cars in the nasty stuff.
The problem with snow driving in our cars is that the tires are just too wide, which can make for some very unpredictable stopping and turning experiences. You turn the wheel [even at very slow speeds] and the car goes straight. Not so good. I drove my 2000 and my Z in DC area snow when necessary, but I didn't much like it.
yeah, while we're on the subject of not seeing snow again. Does anyone know of any good engineering jobs in the south? I have experience with Automotive Quality Systems at a QS-9000 ceritified company, I would love to live in a place where I could drive the Z06 year round :)
Hell i have alot of experience driving in inclement weather. An excellent driver knows the limitations of the machine he is operating in accordance to weather and road conditions. I dont have to prove my manhood in 4 inches of snow on a mountain road, with my 06. I`ll challenge any of my euro brethren with my H6 3.0 Suby or my 4WD pickup in said decribed conditions. When spring arrives, i`ll whip out the Z, and kick his Porsche butt on the same roads!! Long live the four seasons, and the American Dream Machine!!! :steering: :flag
You guys need to get out and drive. No where else in the world except the U.S. does someone buy a production car then not drive it in bad weather. Hell that's what makes you a more experienced driver. I go to Germany a few times a year and I'll tell you you've got to have respect for a guy driving over 100 on the highway in the snow or rain in a Porsche, BMW or whatever. Not just Germany too.
"Drive it like you stole it, unless it's wet" just does not sound so good.
Another thing we have a leg up on the Europeans; our cars are plastic so we can't whine about rust.
I just performed an interesting search on tirerack.com
They offer winter tires for standard C5 sizes but not for Z06. Can Z06 use a Standard Corvette tire size on their stock rims or would Z06 owners have to use standard C5 rims to mount winter tires?
