My friend decided to get a cam and headers for his Z06. How much power can he expect with this set up? How about drivability? How much difference in power and torque would there between the off road X-pipe and the one with the cats? (He has not decided yet on which to get) Please give some opinions or any suggestion you might have.
Here is what he plans on getting:
- Stock Heads
- Stock Modified Air Box W/ K&N
- 224/224 .581/. 581 114 LSA Camshaft
- Comp 918 Springs
- 7.400Â’ Chrome Moly Pushrods
- Dyno Tune
- LG Pro Long tube Headers W/ no cats -OR- with out
- Taylor 409 race wire 10.4mm
- NGK copper spark plugs
- 160^ stat
- ASP Underdrive crank pully
That is a fairly mild cam and with the 114 LS should be very streetable. Expect 10-15 RWHP from the headers, another 10-15 from the cam, 5 from the pulley. He should consider porting the heads and get a CAI.
Other opinions will vary. He might do a bit better, but with a stock airbox and heads the engine is not operating at peak efficiency with this setup, IMHO.
Take a look at Cartek they are making 417rwhp with ported heads and there "H" cam, if I was pulling the heads off I'd get a port job, some CAI, and an LS1 edit and he should be happy with rwhp.
I guess 415 to 425 rwhp. The cam will be very noticable compared to stock, but not brutal lumpy, idle may have to go up to 900rpms or so. Drivability will be like stock except in parking lot, traffic jams, crawling along and clutching situations. Then it will be just a little more balky and cranky than a stock car. If you don't mind the cams effect in the 800 to 1300 rpm range, then the car will be just a blast to drive.
I have almost the same setup. I have the same cam only with a 112...blackwing...LT's W/high flow cats...no pully. The car idles close to stock @ 900 except when it's hot out. Then it cams a little. I made 406/391. The pully goes on this weekend so I'll pick up a little more.
