Had 98 coupe now 2002 Z06. Coupe had problems with electric door locks, power windows, gas guage, and colum lock. In 1 year the Z06 had all the same problems but colum lock. I love my vettes but why can't they find a fix for these prolems that eveyone has with there C5's.
Besides column lock on my '99 - I had no problems with my C5s. Give the automakers credit for building extremely complicated machines and warranting them for three years. I have a new refrigerator that's broken down twice - the last time just after the one year warrenty expired. My refrigerator rarely travels anywhere and never experiences extreme temperatures..

Good point... we expect them to work flawlesley, but it's amazing they work as well as they do.
Wow...that's a blanket statement if I ever heard one. I am not here to defend US auto manufacturers, but all my friends have "imported" european cars (BMW, Audi, Mercedes and VW). They were all bought brand new, and they have all had persistant problems...two of them were lemons (Audi and VW). "German" quality control leaves a lot to be desired these days. So far I have had no problems with my Z.

Good point. I believe that as an historical and general rule, the German car makers turn out cars that have a slightly better build quality than those turned out by the American car makers. However, so far so good with the Z06. My wife, on the other hand, has a BMW 5 Series sedan that has been a lemon since almost day 1. (Yes, the 5 Series is made in Germany, not at the plant in South Carolina). So, so much for general rules.
Really, Germany builds quality cars, when and where?
Read the Euro press and learn about all the problems with the BMWs, Audis, M-Bs, etc. Don't believe the slanted American press which constantly tells us that BMW is the utlimate driving experience and that Daimler-Chrysler can produce quality built cars. Didn't our press tell us how great Jaguars were when they kept falling apart and rusting.
If so why don't they appear in the top 5 of JD Powers? They rarely appear in the top 10 for a single year no less for 2 years or more in a row. Also look at number of defects per 100 cars.
Its very much like the English government's production of propaganda films in the 1920s and 1930s claiming that hand-built was better than mass produced. Why - Henry Ford could sell a car for 1/2 the price of a English manufacturer so the English government attacked Ford and tried to control the minds of their citizens, and it worked. How else could those cars be so poorly made and sell for years. Another example of the "big lie" is Joseph Lucas (The Prince of Darkness).
We both bought new cars last year in August for her and end of September for my new convertible vette.
In the year that we've had them, her german car has been in for major electrical problems no less than 6 times, including a complete instrument cluster replacement. Also the window glass fell in, due to a well known, *widespread* problem with their power window regulators for at least 3 years of production!!!!
My vette? Had a wheel re-coated due to a wheel weight coming loose and leaving a scratch as it walked around the rim. Had to charge the battery once too, POS AGM battery has nearly zero reserve capacity. Kind of my fault since I was dinking with the foglights trying to aim them better and let the battery get low. But it should have lasted more than 20 minutes. All in all, I've been very pleased with the Corvette and it's far better than her german car.
ettevroc3002---you must have GE profile app. I have replaced two ovens , one microwave and three parts in the refridge. All brand new 18mos ago. I love my 03 z06.. "O"Problems so far.
A few years ago The BMW was the #1 Lemon Law car in theSunshine State of FL. :flag :flag :flag :yesnod:
Had fewer problems with my ZO6 (like none in over two years) than any of my Porsches, Suburbans, F-150s or my Ferrari (there was a maintenance hole!)
:steering:
can not believe what i am hearing about quality at BMW. you have to be smokin some good stuff if you really believe that one. i will take my Bowling Green product any day over one of those foreign rides. :bs
my new z06 cost less than my american made SUV, it's faster, performs better, get's better gas mileage and not many stock cars on the track/street can beat it.
what, are you buying used cars that were beat or are you modding the car or doing massive burnouts?
believe me, electric door lock and window technology has not changed much over the years.
are you sure you are telling us the whole story???
