Default Burning oil

2002 Z06 with 26000 miles, last oil change 2600 miles ago, low oil message came on, dealer said oil was down two quarts, changed oil and said come back in 1000 miles to check oil consumption with possible warranty work to follow. Never drive hard and is a first time problem. I know this was a problem for 2001 but not 2002. Any of you have this problem and how was it fixed? I was getting ready to add SC and really glad didn't because of warranty issue.

That is only a qt. every 1,300 miles, and maybe it wasnt full to begin with. Remeber this a loose motor makes more power than a tight one! Too many Z owners complaining about spending a few $$ on extra oil. It is NO big deal.

Thanks for input. Cost of the oil is no problem. It just seems strange that it is just now showing up and if there is a problem, want it covered under warranty before I install Voetech supercharger. I will keep checking.

I think GM defines excessive oil consumption at 1 qt per 1500 miles(or more). You fit that perameter. Anyway, just monitor like your service rep said and if it is burning "excessive" oil, then I an sure they will fix you up.

The 2001 models had a ring problem. That problem was fixed for the 2002 model year. There was also another problem that found its way into some of the 2002s that caused oil consumption. Has something to with the valley pan....Someone explained it to me and it made sense at the time but I cannot remember. Hope that helps a little.
