 Help out :nono: My 2002 ZO6 has 11621 miles. Lately I have heard this grinding type sound coming from the rear axle area. This noise only happens when turning in a tight circle at low speeds. I know this has to do with limited slip traction, ie one wheel turning faster then the other in a radius. Is this sound normal???? Has anyone out there experienced this?? My local Chevy Dealer says its normal. I find this hard to believe.
Welcome to the Forum. I have always had a little noise from the Diff when I'm turning hard at slower speeds (like in a parking lot, or doing a U turn). I've put 12,000 miles on, since I noticed it, with no problems. Dealer said it was normal when I first heard it.
I changed fluid just to see if it would make any difference and it didn't.
At least according to the Z06 VHS tape that I receieved when I bought my 03 Z06.
Mine was making the noise with less than 50 miles on it. I reviewed the tape and sure enough the tape described the exact sound and said that it was normal.
It may or may not be normal. If the dealer has heard the noise (not just your description of it), and you still have doubts, visit another dealer or two- preferably ones that sell a lot of vettes.
Doesn't sound normal, to be sure (and since it is still under warranty) have the dealer listen.
Les
The video did mention noise at take off when stopped but did not mention it during a tight turning circle. Les has the right idea, take it in for inspection.
:iagree:
I took mine in for an oil change and noticed diff fluid leaking... took it in for service and they told me it was normal due to "over fill"... and took some of the fluid out. I started to hear the griding noise a couple of days later. it got progressively worse. the grinding noise on sharp turns or u-turn (and it only makes the noise when the clutch is engaged).
took it in again. after 3 days, the dealer told me it was due to the fact that they had to change my diff fluid, it required a special lubricant but that they could not put it in b/c it is outlawed in CA... wat b/s... they filled w/ other lubricant and it did not help...
after taking the baby in for servicing two more times, they changed the diff all together and it's been 10K miles since and i don't hear the grinding noise.
if you've got warranty get the diff changed.
I'm still dealing with my aching baby. I finally got through to GM and they offered to replace the differential. I was wondering what exactly they did your car? Where you happy with the dealership and where did you take it? I have the option to to choose the dealer location. I want to make sure that where ever I take it they have the most experience. I appreciate your advise. :auto:
