Re: First Oil Change (Skygod)
Ask 5 people and you will get 5 different answers. I would change it at the 1000 mile mark. It also gives you a chance to get under there and check for leaks, cracks, rips, and any other problems.
I agree that you're probably going to get a number of different responses. But there was a thread on this just a few months ago. I seem to recall that most of the folks said between 1,000 and 1,500 miles. I don't think anyone will say that for your first oil change, you should wait for the 7,500 miles. I did mine right at 1,500. But, I broke her in real gently for the first 1,500. Good luck.
I had mine at 3000 miles. Your first oil change is usually considered your most important. You are still breaking in your engine, and your engine components are still seating in. Your most likely to accumulate metal particles in your sump at this point. Do it sooner rather than later IMO. The cost of the change is irrelevant.
The factory oil is not break-in, and there are as many opinions on this topic as there are owners. I changed mine at 500 miles, 1500 miles and 3K miles, and average about every 4K miles after that, more when I track the car. No doubt many will say that is over-kill, and it probably is, but it gives me peace of mind.
New motors/rings create more metal, so I like to get the initial change done early. Plus, IMO, the factory OEM filter PF44/46) does not trap small enough particulate matter compared to say a UPF44, Mobil 1 or K&N, so a filter upgrade is as (or more) important than the actual initial oil change.
So, do what feels right for you, and by all means enjoy the car!
Same intervals for myself also. Have done this with all my cars.

Boy, that is the joy of an open forum, you state your opinion and along comes someone being rude.
Dude, go to any auto parts store and read the particulate trap (expressed in %) characteristics printed right on the filters. You will see that there is a significant difference between a PF44 and the higher line (and more expensive) units e.g. the K&N and Mobil 1. Same thing for the UPF44 vs the PF44. These are facts, and is not rocket science.
I happen to have an Ultraguard (UPF) in the garage, if claims a single pass efficiency rating of 98%, with a preium filter (including its own PF filters) averaging 72%, and the stated "conventional filter average" being 40% single pass efficiency. I also have a FRAM DG (top of their line) filter which claims a 96% single pass efficiency. All filters are NOT created equal.
And yes, it is OK to state an opinion. Do you think your remark somehow helped the discussion? :nono: :nono:
I don't actually have my car yet but will soon. I will most likely do the first change at less than 100 miles then again at 1000 then again a 3000, then every 3000 after that. I have to do my busa every 2000 miles.
Join the club for receiving rudeness. I was told to "learn how to drive my car" merely because I do not like the shift 1 to 4 lock out! Anyway, I changed my oil the first time at 3000 miles.
Don't worry about :troll 's here. You meet them every now and then on all message boards.
An antiquated standard leftover from the dino oil days...
Hell, GM recommends every 15k miles or 1 year for all 2001+ vettes!
I think 7500 miles is perfect and more than frequent enough. There's no harm in changing every 3k miles but all you're doing is throwing money down the drain. Unless you do what some people do, which is run Mobil-1 in the vette for 3k miles, and then put the vette's old oil into the daily driver for another 3k miles.
And if all else fails, check the oil life monitor...
Scott - excellent advise, I plan to send a sample to Blackstone at my next oil change interval.
Steve - (slong) - they send you a free sample collection kit and charge only $20 for the analysis. Usually people have it done right at their normal change interval (for them), and the analysis tells you how good a job your oil and filter are doing, and what particulates are found in the oil. I recommend you check out the website.

Do yourself a favor, goto Blackstone Labs (http://www.blackstone-labs.com/) and order yourself one of their oil sample test kits.
Do your oil change and send in a sample of the oil to be analysed. And they'll give you unbiased results on your oil.

And by all the test results fellow members have posted you will be saving money on unnecessary oil changes, which means more money for mods!! :D
