SCI isn't the only magazine mentioning 500 HP ... Autoweek in January said:
"Only the coupe will debut in Detroit. The convertible will be shown later in the year, and the Z06 will be a 2006 model-year item. Hill said it will differ more from the C6 on which it is based than today’s Z06 is from the C5, and talk of 500 hp is widespread."
Autoextremist also has mentioned 500 HP (or higher) and more displacement back when they predicted 400 for the base model C6 .... and nailed that one perfectly.
SCI may well be wrong, but it SURE would be nice if they're RIGHT !!!
I have one on order... or rather I am first in line at a very large dealer ship.
I guess i will figure out if i want it or not.. before the time comes.
$100,000
I guess it's time to start putting a little extra away.
Whether it be the Blue Devil or a base Z06; I am pushing for 500 hp and much wider wheels/tires. I honestly dont' think we will see either one until 2006. But, we can always hope.
So C5 production ends in what? June? And no new Z06 until Sept. '05, if then? Doesn't seem right somehow.
As far as ther "end" of C5 production, again from the May 2004 issue of Sports Car International:
"In testimont to how similar the C6 is to the C5, there wil be no shutdown in the Bowling Green plant for model changeover. Instead, starting in July the C6 will be phased into production beginning at the rate of one out of every five Corvettes built, then progressing to two out of five, three out of five, and so on. Look for convertible production to begin about a month later, but don't look for a Z06 anytime soon."
As far as the "delay" before the next version of the Z06, makes sense to me .... you got a new engine (or at least some big changes) to develop, bodywork, suspension, coordinating new tires with (I would think) Goodyear, all while trying to get the C6 out .... even Chevy has limited resources ... and the additional year of feedback from "real world" experience with the C6 should help in building one awesome car ... I can wait .....
I hope all the rumors are true, but some info does lend credents to the rumors.....Dodge has the Viper, Ford has the GT.....so GM needs to come up with some sort of answer. Gimme a Tiger Shark with 500Hp and 7.0 ltr engine.
