Am I the only one upset that a car of this quality comes with painted wheels? I feel for what I paid for this car the wheels should have been the natural metal color, polished or chromed. Just about every other new car out there now has wheels that are their natural metal color and not painted.
I bring all this up because the other day at work someone asked me why I bought new chrome wheels for my Z06. When I told them the stock wheels were painted grey, they couldn't believe a Corvette would have that. Needless to say I felt a embarrassed.

No, I changed mine immediately to the polished wheels.............looks great!
They're not my favorite image cue on the car but they do look like something you'd see on a race car, understated and purposeful looking. Chrome looks fancier but doesn't that weigh a little more? I don't know. I suppose Chevy went for that serious look but had a slight change of heart when they opted to make them chrome on the '04 Commemorative Edition Z06. If they don't 'grow' on you, it's nice to know that there are lots of replacement wheels out there.
The 2004 doesn't have a chrome option, it's polished that they have. It is lighter in weight than chrome. Most cars have some form of polished metal look and not painted wheels. I think the Z06 painted grey wheels cheapen the look of the car.
I kept trying to convince myself that I liked the painted wheels but after owning my 03 for three months I had to do something. No matter how clean they were or how well they were waxed they still looked "dirty". I swapped them out at Corvettes of Houston for some Original GM Chromies and it makes a world of difference. Who cares that they might weigh a couple of pounds more.
Don't get me wrong I've never been a Chrome wheel person. But I think GM could have gone with a better look for the Z06 wheels. I don't see how anyone thinks these wheels look like race wheels. They clearly don't to me.
I'm up in the air about them. One minute I want chrome, the next minute I like the race look. I think the "shiny" style is more pimpy/showy, definately makes it look classier. I think the grey falls into the same class as the black motorsport rims, gives it a competetive look.
