Hit the rev limiter last night in both first and second (was just doing what I had to do at the time, most understand this).
It seems on a ZO6 that hitting the limiter is a very "violent" reaction as in popping and stuttering in the engine before the gas kicks in again. Much more so than in other cars I've hit the limiter with: BMW's, Miata's, Crown Vic, Chevy Pickup, you name it.
Just wondered if too much of this hurts the engine? When I hit it, I get off the gas quick. Just seems like an unusually strong reaction from the engine when the limiter kicks in. The engine runs fine when the gas comes back on. Opinions sought. Thanks and have a neat day. :auto:
The car is designed to limit the revs that way to prevent real damage from occuring but too much of it for too long a time is definitely not a good thing. Just be sure to shift at lower points.
Get your self a hypertec download you can change the redline.I think they work on zo6's Sombody here probably knows.I don't own a zo6,but it works on my auto. :jester
occasionally bouncing off the rev limiter won't hurt anything. First gear goes by so quick that it can be hard to avoid sometimes.
Just shift sooner.
Never really thought mine was "violent" though.
Just get a reprogram and raise your rev limiter to 8500rpm or so. You won't have to worry about that pesky rev limiter anymore, though you rev it too higher, you're engine will blow up into a bunch of little expensive pieces. :D
i hit it often-in 1st no big deal-the thing that makes it "violent" your just not used to it-and its more your reaction-everything just sorta "quits"!
man -just shift it and keep going,i smoked a nissan 350 z the other weekend-i hit the limiter in 1st because he was trying to "pinch me off on a two lane going into one, we had left from an intersection and as soon as i hit 2nd he was about a car length behind and after that he didn't want any more.. so he dropped back and stayed his distance- :mad :D :steering:
Shouldn't really be viloent unless you fnish the 1/4 mile in first gear. That might get a bit uncomfortable. Assuming you only missed the shift by a couple hundred RPM get should just get the average engine fart the rest of us get.
No, I'm not used to it in the sixer. It is different than other's I've hit.
Heck, all I was doing was trying to do the speed limit in first gear on the Interstate since I was too lazy to shift. I never exceed the speed limit unless I have to. :lolg:
