Further to what Roadfrog said, ring flutter was the cause, and it occurs during high rpm, light load. Check the TSB.

I use it as "Cruzing gear".(freway mostly)
I just make sure I stay above 2000 RPM (but that's just me)

When just driving around I keep the RPMs above 1,000. 5th gear at 1,000 = 35 MPH. 6th gear at 1,000 = 40 MPH. I don't try to accelerate with the engine at 1,000 PRMs. Lower gears are for accelerating. I have had several Z06's with no problems.

I use it all the time - when I can remember I have it. Under light accleration I often go from 4-6.
