Default Is this normal (eng temp)

This time of year, the 2002 Z06 usually runs about 190-195 degrees on the coolant temp during normal driving. Today while sitting in traffic (65 degrees outside temp) for about three minutes, the temp shot up rather quickly to 226 before the traffic started flowing again. I was kind of worried about that increase and how it went up so quickly. Is this normal?

Next time, when sitting in traffic, flick on the A/C and all will be good.

I agree it is normal and I agree to turn the A/C on. I believe it causes the fans to kick on a bit earlier than they otherwise do.

What is the prescribed temperature that activates the fans without the air on?

With air on?

Thanks

Totally Normal, the fans kick in about 225, If you switch the AC on the fans will come on below 225, Give or take a few degrees..

Also you may want to look up and under the radiator. Clean any debris that may have gotten way up and jammed into the radiator. a 1/2 of stuff causes the engine to heat up more. Debris screens may make your engine run hot as they cut the air flow down dramiticly. My understanding is the the LSx engine runs best with temps 190 - 210. So a low themistate MAY NOT be a good thing.
