Default Shifting Technique

I noticed with all the torque this engine puts out, and the gear ratios, its easy to start out in second gear from a dead stop. Does anyone else use this method ? Can i damage the transmission ? ;)

sure do ... in fact i have even tried 4th and it was not a problem ... but 2nd or 3rd on flat ground takes about one or two tire rolls and your off ... i have heard of several guys with 3:90 gears who launch in 2nd!

Yeah, it seems any speed greater than 1mph makes starting out in 2nd a snap. Odd....

No, but you will probably put more wear into the clutch. When on the street I normally leave in 1st with the car at an idle. I do not give it any gas until the clutch is all the way out.

Yes thanks for that reply. I intended to inquire about the clutch wear launching in second. ;)

I agree with those who mention that you're probably putting more wear on your clutch by starting in second. I'd be careful starting in a higher gear like fourth. As long as you start out easy, all you'll do is wear the clutch. If you really try to hit it, like dumping the clutch, you'll put serious torque on your gears. You may just break something.

If you're tired of shifting, why not just use or the skip shift? If you've defeated your CAGS you can just pretend it's there and shift into fourth from first. I kind of enjoy the whole experience of shifting the car. To me it's part of the driving experience. Then I don't do a lot of driving in heavy traffic either. That would make a difference.
