won't stay running !
service column message comes on car idles but the sec i let clutch out it stalls waiting for tow as i write how cn i bring up codes or any other suggestions deeply appreciated ASAP please

Sounds like the infamous column lock problem. Search the archives for more info. I feel sorry for you, I had this happen to my '98 coupe and it stranded me too.

Turn the ignition on. Press and hold "Options", then press the fuel button 4 times (while still holding down Options. The DIC will go through it's automated code thingy. After ti finishes, it will revert back to "manual diagnostics". You can than cycle through the various codes at your own pace, and see what you've got. (use options, fuel, and gauge to cycle through everything)

Column lock - the software kills the engine if you try to drive with it locked. You can reset the body-control computer by pulling fuse #25 in the passenger footwell. That will sometimes fix a column lock problem. Pull the fuse, wait a full minute, then re-insert the fuse.
