How do you clean the tires after going thru the water before launching? It seems to be easy with an automatic but with the 6 speed and no front brake lock?
Ranger, could you let some of your groupies know when you're going to run this year at Capitol and/or MIR? I live about three miles from Capitol and would miss my own birthday party to see you run it and maybe pick up some tips. I intend on starting my drag racing career this summer at the tender age of 45 and I can use all of the help I can get.

Hey, Nobigspoilerz. I plan to be at the CCA drag day at Capitol Raceway on April 24th. There's a thread on the drag board with links to the details. Would enjoy meeting you and sharing what I've learned. I'm easy to spot; only guy there wearing a RANGER tee shirt.

Here is a link to a write up I did...couple thousand words on what I've learned putting 200+ passes on two Z06s. If you'll page down, there is a how-to for a burn-out of both stock F1SCs and drag radials.
God willing I'll be there. Thanks for the reading material. I have a rather boring couple of weeks at government trades shows and should have time to read up.
No competition mode?? so you use the traction control feature? i figured it would hurt ETs. please explain?
No I don't use the traction control or the compition mode, I am used to runing race cars without eloctronic aids on drag strips. Each to there own. One thing in this post I do disagree with is running an extra quart of oil for drag raceing. Extra quart of oil when road raceing is a good idea, as the cornering forces will hang the oil up from draning back to the pan fast enough, not the case in straight line raceing. 1/2 quart low is more like it for straight line acceleration. The 'truth' is you NEED to just get personal experience. I power shift pretty much ALL THE TIME on DR and MOST of the time on F1's, dosen't mean it's the best way but I do it because it is THE BEST WAY for et's in my car. I NEVER shift at 6500 because my car goes SLOWER, 63-6400 works fine and no revlimiter problems. You will find most of the "experts" with personal bias, from there own experiences, hopefully, but not always it will be helpfull to others. So bottom line try the things you read, but there is no substitute for personal experience. Have fun, the Z06 can be a veery quick car. I do my burn-outs in first gear, never use compitition mode, power shift @6350 and have never been bested by a near stock Z06, same day and track. We have a vette-viper race at New England Dragway on oct 16. A good time!!!!!! ALL are wellcome. Ric
Wow, now this is almost exactly how I run!!! Even the first gear burnout. Only thing i do different is... I run competitive driving mode.
11's, Ive been to atco4 times since i've had my car and the best so far is 12.7@114, 11's......holy sheep sh*t batman I have a lot to learn
Practice, practice, practice. Bunch of fast Z06 racers that run at Atco, hang on the C5-peformance board and the drag board. Might also want to hook up with them for some one-on-one tip-sharing.

I went to spend a day watching Ranger last year. I learned a lot from him on the launch and watching a guy who is truly in tune with his car. John has been racing a stick car for a long time and it shows. I will try to make the CCA event as well, and might try my hand at the drag racing this time. I'm not sure I want to beat on the car that much, but it would be nice to see the trap speeds. I have more experience racing my Grand National auto trans car then my Z06. Look forward to seeing you all at the track. Don
I've got about 40+ passes on mine since buying it in Jan.
Worst 13.8x
Best on street tires is 12.2x temp was in the high 40's and track prep was slightly better than average. The bulk of my runs are 12.3 to 12.7 on streets.
I borrowed a set of BFG DR's from a friend and ran several 11.8x to 12.0x with 1.75 60' times.
I also have 1 run where the planets aligned. The temp was 45 with low humidity and good air. Same night that I had the borrowed DR's. The guy ahead of me dropped water on the start line. They took this torch and heated the track and then sprayed vht. I ended up cutting a 1.67 60', 7.365 95mph 1/8 and 11.501 at 118.21 1/4. I launched at 4500-4800 with very little wheelspin. 1/2 pedal shifted 1-2 about the same 2-3 and powershifted 3-4. Tach showed 6300 on 1-2 about the same 2-3 and I think 6200 on the 3-4.
Typically though I don't powershift except the 3-4 and launch very conservatively with some clutch slippage, coming out at 2500. I also tend to follow the shift light on the hud if I am lift throtle shifting and if I part throtle shift go at 6300 so I don't bump the limiter. No Traction control and no Comp mode.
The main key to these cars is to drive them very smoothly, they do not like to be thrown around. Smooth=Fast

Nice going. Smooth is key, I agree.
Alot of great feedback and info in this thread.
