My 2004 Z06 has 2,500miles on the clock and it is an amazing car! I am curious if anyone has experienced their cars' tranny jumping out of reverse? This seems to be my only issue and I will bring it in for service. Happens everyday and I am now keeping my hand on the shifter whenever I am in Reverse to prevent it Is there an adjustment for the shifter or am I looking at a tranny overhaul?
Thankyou for your reply.I'll have to bring her in I guess!
I was hoping to get 50 or 60 responses that said..." IT IS COMMON! JUST LIKE STEERING COLUMN LOCK"...and there wound be a 10 dollar FIX I could buy to remedy it.
For a brief while I thought my shifter was being CONTROLLED by the HAL 2001 computer and it simply didn't FEEL like listenig to my commands to go into Reverse(much the same way it locks me out of 2nd gear when it wants to go into 4th... Come to think of it???
It doesn't happen to mine with about 2200 miles logged. Sometimes it is hard to get it into Reverse without first going into 2nd or 4th. No big deal though and is only occasional.
Sounds familiar, except mine is a 2002. At 3000 miles, I experienced exactly what you are. Took it in, and they say the synchros are bad, and gears have excessive wear. I was very upset about the excessive wear comment, as I am fairly mild with my car. Next, I'm getting on it downtown, and the transaxle(?) snaps in two. Hope you have better luck.

Thankyou for your replys.I don't use reverse too often since I hardly drive the car.I called my Dealer to try and make an app't but decided to wait till my next oil change and kill two birds with one stone.I imagine I will also be told there is excessive wear, however it's been that way since new and it dosn't have 3,000 miles on it yet.Good news to hear they don't have to yank the tranny.I had the same thing happen on my old Jeep YJ 10 years ago ,but it had 60,000 miles of abuse(I lived in the woods, back then and used it for hauling!)
[QUOTE]Internal trans problem, could be fork could be gear related.[/QUOTE
Well I must seen everything after arriving for my appointment yesterday at the Dealer.I arrived for my appointment 15minutes early. They took my keys at the Service desk and then informed me that the Shop Foreman who owned a few Vettes was coming right out to attend to my cars issue .He wanted to go through a test drive with me.After waiting 45minutes I asked for my keys back, since they left my new car in the lot near the entrance where it was blocking traffic coming into their lot.I left at that point after having them give me the impression
that they do not treat Vette owners better than everyone else.I didn't expect to be treated any nicer but certainly not IGNORED!
I now have my car at a much friendlier dealer. They have had my car two days and are kittyfooting around the idea that the tranny may have real problems. No adjustments have made a difference. They are getting imput from the GM tech Hotline and it will be a bit more time before they rip into her.I hope this gets COVERED!
For those that have posted that their 1st gear was popping out, perhaps if it is still under warranty it would be wise to have it checked out
Well I just got my car back from taking it in with those exact symptoms...It is difficult to get it in reverse sometimes and twice in one week it popped out of first at a light.....So I dropped it off and they said they couldnt get it to replicate my complaints... He said they could tear it down and if they found anything it would be covered but if not I would pay for tear down.... The dealer was cool about it and said he was sure he would see me again as its not all to uncommon but if there is a problem it will get worse..... So for now I wait ......It also hasnt done it once since I have gotten the car back??? Maybe the made some adjustments
GoodLuck.I am still waiting for the Dealer to call back with an update.I just got my Helms Corvette 04 service manuals.I am going to read up on this NOW!
I thought reverse didn't have synchros and that is why (almost) everyone has to put there car in a fwd gear first, in order to get it in reverse. Having problems getting it into reverse is NOT an uncommon thing, and not indicative of a problem. I am not sure about the 'popping out of reverse' issue.

I have only had a brief chance to review the service manual. It says the problem may be a synchro sleeve or bent fork.
This is being covered under warrantee and the Service Manual goes into a very long diagnostic tree in order to rule out all the obvious simple problems first. They have not openned the tranny yet and are awaiting parts(probably a reverse gear lockout switch). If that was the fault then it is repaired. If not they go to the next item on yhe list and test that out and then maybe order MORE new parts.Eventually if all else fails they go in and do more diagnostics and disassemble.
This may take a while if any parts turn out to be on backorder.Anyway the Service Manager is happy to report that he took my car for a testdrive at Lunch and he likes the car...however,there definitely still is a problem.I will keep you guys posted ,if you like.
Believe me it can't be an uncommon problem if GM has addressed it in such detail in the Service manual...for 04 Vettes under"popping out of Gear"
Thankyou for your reply
I just picked my car up today. The dealer replaced the shift fork and syncro for reverse and everything works again.Once the parts came in it only took a couple days and they did not have to remove the tranny from the car. Thanks for asking Jeff.
