I've noticed a few drops of oil under the trans/diff area of my car lately. Doesn't seem to be getting worse but was curious about opinions. Wasn't this an issue with some C-5's?? I am assuming it would be wise to take it to the dealer and get it checked out but how much can I drive it before I get there? Is it safe to take it on a road trip (~500 miles)?? Thanks!

Re: Leaking trans/diff (50yrzo6)
It's a known issue on the ZO6's at least, especially on the left side of the diff. I had mine fixed w/ less then 3000 mi.
Just find a dealer w/ a good Corvette repair guy....
Had mine replaced after 12,000. Luckily yours is dripping. Mine was such a slow leak, that the oil would just cake onto the rear crossmember. I never knew I had a leak untill I could hear the metal grinding on metal. I would not drive mine for any amount of miles without getting it fixed. If it's still under warranty, just have it towed to the dealership for free, via your road side assisstance. It should only take a few days to fix.

Just had mine replaced on Friday at my local Chevy Dealer....Its covered under warranty.....I have 4600 miles on my car and I drove at least 1000 miles on it before I noticed it.....did no damage to my car at all....TIP: Leave your car at the dealer overnight once its repaired to insure its completely fixed and there are no more leaks....
My 02 was replaced with a OEM original design oring at 9k, and again at 11k with the new aerospace oring. Today it is in the shop again at 22k miles for another oring. It will be interesting to see what they put in this time.
From my visit to Bowling Green this past Monday, I saw they are using the same drive train components (ie trans/diff) in the new C6, so maybe GM solved it for the new 400HP combo. Replacing these orings for 30,000 vehicles is mucho expensive for GM under warranty.
Been there, done it ~ 6,000 miles... Happened to be under car to bypass the CAGS solenoid and noticed leak on LH side. Dealer replaced, kept my 03Z06 overnight... So far, so good... Now have 6,980 miles... Get it done ASAP...
Just wanted to report out my 02's #3 oring fix. Per the latest TSB, they used the "aerospace oring" plus a sealant (translation Permatex or equivalent)
Looks like the 60/70's fix is good enough for the C6's also
It's almost to be expected on a C5. It's a three hour job to fix with a competent technician. If it takes them all day, something's wrong. Good luck.

Had mine done on Monday. They noticed it while checking a different problem. I went up to TN/NC and drove the 'tail of the dragon' (11 miles 318 curves), and the skyway. I broke down on the way back. Evidently the line to the fuel pump was rubbing the frame and shorted out. They fixed it and I got two miles from the dealer and it died again. They said the fuel pump was drawing too much and replaced it. No problems since! Not what I expected with only 4500 miles on her.
