Without a doubt they are clercoated.

Z16 wheels
Are the Z16 wheels clear-coated over the polished Aluminum? I thought i had read a link one time where they were.....Getting ready to yank the 4 wheels off for a good detailing....

I'm not sure if they are clearcoated. But, I too would like to know the answer. I would assume that they are. I went to the dealer last week in hopes that they had a Z16 on the lot that I could look at the wheels before I ordered a set.

I bought an 04 Z06 with Z16 wheels and sold them on this forum. I don't believe they where clearcoated. It appeared to me that they where polished aluminum. From a distance they looked good but once up close, you could see the polish/buff marks on them. I ended up putting factory chrome Z06 wheels on. I really don't believe they where clear coated but I could be wrong. Thanks Dean

I would hope they are clear coated, polished wheels without any protection look bad after a few months, they tarnish and fade. Regardless, chrome is so much easier to keep clean.

Now...I assume it would be fine to use Zaino Polish on them? Something like Z6 Detailer? I had been using Eagle Ones' product titled "A2Z Wheel cleaner"..worked great on my '02 MY Z06 Gray wheels...as for as removing a fresh coat of brake dust.....Just not certain if it is recommended on Clear-coated polished aluminum wheels which I have......Anyone out there know the answer on that one?

I just bought a set, and yes they are clearcoated. If you look at them very closely, in addition to the polish marks you will see some pits, etc. They do NOT have the quality of $3000 aftermarket wheels!! 
But once you get them on they look GREAT!!! 
My car is Mag red and I am extremely pleased with the look. The chrome wheels tend to have a cold, hard, mirrory kind of look. The Z16s have a softer,warmer, and more silvery glow. Also, if you ever get a scratch on one, the polished wheels can much more easily be fixed. In addition the clearcoat probably weighs a half ounce less per wheel!
